Hey , I have alot of stuff for poser...I want all of my thumbnails to look like the default poser thumbnails....example, no stupid background colored square imaged into the thumbnails....I want them to be transparent except for the item or figure I am saving...what do I do here to get this effect......?

Set up your pose and render it. Then go to Edit->Copy Picture and click on it. Next go to Display->Paste onto Background and click on it. Move your figure out of the way so that only the picture shows and then save your pose, prop, figure(s), etc (make sure you select the figure, prop, etc before saving).... If you pose over a black background, you'll get a nice drop shadow in your thumbnail, too. -Jim Moore

You might also want to check out Harper's .rsr converter utility. It's in the Poser Free Ftuff in the Utilities category. It will allow you to have the complete rendered image, bump maps, trans maps, and all applied.

If you want the colored square not to appear in your thumbnails, set your graphics display to 32 BIT.

Oops! That's by Phillip Foss.

Hi Folks! You can also just select the figure or prop from the library, set up the camera, texture or lights the way you want them, and then click on the Add to Library button. When the pop-up message appears, type in the same name for the figure or prop that it currently has. Poser will ask you if you want to replace it; click Yes. Your new thumbnail will be created in the Library. Keep adjusting the scene and renaming the object till you get what you want, and remember to turn off Ground Shadows unless you want them to be included in the thumbnail. BTW: I learned this technique from responses to a post I made at this forum. Thanks, y'all!!! Peter (Dr Zik)

On Mac there is another very easy way to do it: - get GraphicConverter from www.lemkesoft.com - chose "open" - set selector to "PICT from Resource" Now you can directly edit the thumbnail including its mask, and "save" will put it back without spoiling the remaining library file.

Hi Folks! Thanks, MartinC! I didn't know that. Peter (Dr Zik)

If you're already using 32 BIT color then you must have a video driver conflict with Poser. Try going to 24 BIT and see if that helps. -JH.

Hi Jeff, I'm also in 32 bit mode and get the actual scene background instead of Poser's dropshadow, "brownish with circle" background. I'm using the generic nVidia TNTII card that came with my Dell. This is not a problem for me as I use the "paste to background" function to create Thumbnails that include bumps and transparencies, and I've had no other conflicts with Poser. Even so, I'd like to get a straight answer from Curious Labs as to the REAL conditions that determine how a Poser library thumbnail is made. -SMT

The thumbnail problem has been solved by using 32 BIT for almost 2 years with Poser 3 & 4. I don't know what has changed. Sometimes they say to turn graphics acceleration off/down.

Tell me Jeff, do you have the problem when exporting from Poser that some of the parameter boxes can't be checked until you exit from and then reselect the Poser Window? (example: exporting a figure's head to OBJ format - the "Save as morph target" box can't be checked unitl I press some other function on the Windows task bar, such as the Start Button, and then select the Poser window again. After that, I can go ahead and check the box without any trouble.) I know I'm not the only one who has this problem, as I got the work-around from someone else. -SMT

I've heard other people complain of that problem when using the 4.02 Beta update. I've been using the 4.03 update for a while now with no problems like that.

My version is 4.0.3.126, modified July 22, 2000. I think that's still the latest -SMT

It may be OS related then, I still use old WIN95 on my main machine. Atleast there's a workaround for that Problem ;-)

I used to wonder how to get rid of the dark boxes around the thumbnails too, but earlier today, I tried the following and it seems to work... set your document background size to something like 600x600 or larger and then position your camera so the figure is within the viewing document, turn off shadows and then add it to the library. so far, it has been working
