The spot light parameters seem to be not working... both in document window and in a Render. Distance start, distance end, and angle start dont seem to be working. Angle start is supposed to adjust the amount of diffusion of the angle end... now the settings seems to be doing nothing at all. Same goes for the Distance settings. Distance End set at zero means the light is infinite... if it has any positive parameter at all then that should be the distance of how far the light travels... Again in P6 this is not working. Distance Start is a little bit tougher to test without being able to adjust distance end. ------------------------------ I also set up some reflections nodes and set the rendering for raytracing and I did not get a single reflection in my rendering. ------------------------------ The program does not do well after it has been open for awhile... I know there are speculations of memory leaks... I am not sure... I just know that after a while the program wont even render a tiny little square. ---------------------------- I hate to say it but my first impressions are not that good, Not much better than when CL released P5.... I hope that I am wrong and I am just missing something. Christian

I haven't tested the distance start/end parameters on spots yet, so I don't know about that. However, I've been rendering reflections just fine in P6 for a while now. Can you post a screencap of you material settings? Also, make sure "raytracing" is turned on when you render raytraced reflections. It seems obvious, but people forget.

I did a restart and I was able to get the reflections to work... When I was having problems the first thing I looked for was to see if raytracing was on... I also double checked the reflection nodes.... I also double checked to make sure there was a value set. After the restart, I set everything up the same... did a render and viola! I now have reflections. I have also had a little more luck with the lighting though I still can not get angle start to work. I have had some luck rendering the distance end and start but they are not really showing in the display window, this makes it extremely difficult to adjust settings to get decent lighting. P5 definitely works better when it comes to these settings. I found the distance settings were working when I was messing with the sketch rendering... I was able to use that as a reference to my adjustments. Maybe there is a reason the settings are different in P6... I just have not seen any reason why? Christian

Hello Christian, I also had problems working with spot lights. Found that if I select ANOTHER light and then go BACK to the spot in question it seemed to give me a preview. I've noticed in earlier versions of Poser that sometimes it's slow to realize that you've changed figures/props. Formerly it seems like it was mostly figures. In P5 you might work up figure1 and then load figure2 and begin workup but those morphs would effect fig1. By actually selecting fig1 and then going back to fig2 it seemed to catch the program up. I've only begun to play with the new software. Still alot to learn ... Best Wishes, Rance

Here is my WIP experiment with P6 & Reflections... # Mirror Surfaces and 3 lights.. Raytrace at 2 bounces...Still need to work on the sharpness of reflections...

Synpainter, Cool mirror! You might post your mirror texture settings. Looks to be a great WIP. Best Wishes, Rance
