I've talked to a few members about this, but wanted to get a few more opinions (yes or no's) before I proceed. I was one of the few idiots that pre-ordered Poser 6, then found myself too impatient and went ahead and ordered the download version. (I know, what was I thinking?) It was too late to cancel my boxed version so now I have two copies of Poser 6. Although just one copy is installed and registered. Does anyone know if it's legal to resell my second copy? I emailed CL about this but I still haven't heard back from them. But it states somewhere in their massive legal jumble that to resell the software you need their written permission. (at least that's how I understood it) Any thoughts or verification on this would be greatly appreciated. I need some cash, want to sell my extra copy and don't feel like waiting an indefinite amount of time for CL to respond. Thanks!

You'll need a transfer-of-ownership form: http://www.curiouslabs.com/article/articleview/347/1/492?sbss=492 But I'd recommend waiting for CL's response, in case anything has changed.

Hey that was easy. Thanks Little Dragon. I spent almost an hour looking through their website to find something like that. (guess I missed it, the link was right there in the legal section) Thanks!

Why didn't you just refuse to accept shipment at the door when the package arrived? It would have been sent back and your credit card credited... minus shipping costs.

pzrite, I'm not sure about this, so I recommend waiting for CL! I would think that if you are selling the boxed copy, that hasn't been opened yet, nor registered there shouldn't be a problem... except it's and UPGRADE (although it contains the complete software) so you may have to sell it to another registered user of P4 or P5.

I actually want to keep the boxed version and sell the software license for the downloaded version. But, yes I plan to wait until I hear back from CL, maybe one of them will see this post and respond. :) The transfer of ownership form seems pretty clear, but as Little Dragon says, it's a few years old and things might have changed (even though it's still posted on their website)

trav...I thought the boxed version of P6 SE with all the content and Shade LE was a full version that could be purchased by anyone, not only owners of previous versions...you do get a complete new serial # with the P6...so therefore, it's not really an upgrade and if you currently own Poser 5, then you in fact have two full separate programs...dont you?? or am I totally off base? if tI'm right, couldn't someone sell the Poser 5?

Say what you mean and mean what you say.

Selling the download edition might be a problem. Even if CL allows it (which they just might) it will be hard to find a buyer because of it being on a home-burned CD. You'd be much better off selling the boxed version.

MM:
I already have a couple of people interested, one person is interested in getting multiple copies for a render farm (or something like that) so its basically people that are looking to just getting a legal serial number that can be used for support and future upgrades.

If you purchased the download version, all you will have is a home-burned cd anyway.

I'm probably going to end up selling it to someone here, where people know me, and not on Ebay where there are lots of shady transactions going on. I'll just sell it for $100 so I don't think I'll have a problem finding someone who's willing to get a good deal. :)

blonderella I could be wrong. You do get the full software and a new serial number but the price I paid was for an upgrade from P5 to P6. Many software company just give you a new box of software (Carrara also does this.) but the serial number is registered as an Upgrade and you can't sell the earlier version (legally), even thought they are complete boxed software. That's why I said to wait for CL's responce. mike

My boxed version had a return slip inside the cardboard box it was sent in. Return for a full return. Most things you order off the net come with a return slip. Just fill it out and tape the provided labels to the box and send it back. Refund usually shows up in about 2-3 weeks.

Thanks Kristta, but as I said I want to keep the boxed version, it's sort of a collection I have going. I have every version of Poser including the very first one, every CD, manual and box. Maybe one day I'll build a Poser shrine ;)

Well, being as you've already got a couple interested buyers, then it looks like all you need is CL's ok. I'm pretty sure they will.
