After some miserable attempts to create good looking clouds Im finally crying out for help. Do someone know how it should be done in Bryce ormaybe knows of a good tut. Im not talking about skies here or postwork. I suppose Im talking about adding a good mat to a primitive.

Stoner have you tried using the cloud plane. when you click on the cloud plane you get a choice of using either surface or volume, use the volume and pick what clouding you want to use and then just do some tweaking.

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

Yes I have, but Im thinking of cloudformations in more limited areas. Im not entirely happy with the results I get with a plane. There must be other ways of doing it. But thanks anyway.

I've tried it with some spheres...but it needs some tweaking and tweaking to get it right... Maybe you are more patient than I am...;-)

Volumetric mats on rocks can get some good results....but long render times especially if you use more than a few.

Go to this site, You'll have to sign up. It is free. Once signed in you can easily find skies & clouds. I applied this to a 2d Plane, turned off all aspects of shadow on the material, added some fog in the sky lab to ease the transition between the water plane & 2D plane. I changed the focus & pitch of the scene just slightly, added Dracs Z-bird, & some model of a nuke reactor I got on the net. If you load a small image to the 2D plane ,you'll get low resolution artifacts on the plane and it'll appear grainy. There are tons of other sites out there with High-Res skies too. Check the Bryce Resource links. Images should be over 1000 pixels length and/or width. After a few practice runs, you'll get the hang of it.

Enjoy.
ICM p.s. This took me all of 20 mins. From reading your post to posting this. It gets much easier with practice. Oh yeah...No Postwork either. BRYCE ON!!

An old experiment, the clouds made from a symmetrical lattice.

Part 5 of the tutorials in the enclosed link describe how I make my skies.

all of these clouds were done with sphers and cloud mats. dont overlap them and make them positive in the attributes.

"Reinstall Windows" is NOT a troubleshooting step.

Thank you all for the inspiration and creative ideas. Well see if I can achive a good result with your help?

Aye, there's also the material aspect of cloud-making. Look for VanLippe's cloud materials online, they are the best in the Bryce industry, and will teach you volumes (hah!) about the DTE and volumetric materials in Bryce. These can be applied to spheres, which is how I made the dark foreground in my latest scene, or applied to Volume Slabs and put high in the sky for very realistic cloudscapes, all Brycean...

I did an experimental cloud scene with spheres not too long ago. Just spheres with default cloud materials tweaked slightly. The only thing is to avoid overlapping of spheres as they create some artifacts. Mine had a few but I just postworked them away ;)

Aye, sometimes you can get around the artifacts by setting your spheres to "Positive", and then grouping them. This doesn't always work, but sometimes it works with volumetric spheres...

BEST advice for making clouds with Bryce dte/procedurals on spheres; Make them big, make them far away. I mean really, really, really big. And, really far away (since they are so big) I make'em at least 1,000 units big, and usually between 5,000 and 10,000 if I can. AgentSmith

These clouds were done with spheres with volumetric mats. AgentSmith has said it quite right in the fact that you should make them REALLY BIG and very distant. it works very well. Wade

Nice work on those clouds, Swade! I would've guessed a photo, honestly... Really nice. CrazyDawg, I haven't forgot about you... Check our email tonight, my friend.
