Does anybody know why trees rendered in bryce seem to have a strange chunk taken out of the side of them?

artbyphil posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 10:57 AM

I think it is some sort of bug that was never fixed. Hopefully in Bryce 5.5!

Try going into the Treelab and adjusting the trunk size.

As they said, it's a bug and it will continue bugging you. :-) Anyways, in Bryce Freebies there was a "fix", a small 3DS mesd to put over the missing part. I haven't looked so I don't know whether it's still there, but it's worth looking for, cause it will correct the problem without much fuss.

I've found the mesh you were talking about at: www.renderosity.com/freestuff.ez?Topsectionid=0&Form.SortOrder=UserName&Start=85&Form.Search=True&Form.Criteria=TREE+FILL but its not easy to use and really not worth the trouble unless you are focusing on the trunk of a tree!

Yup, seems you've been bugzorzed. MoonGoat (sorry for the 1337)

yep i know the reason for it. when you use a copy(duplicate) of the same tree in the scene and they are close together it tends to cause this problem. try going into the tree editor and adjusting the "Randomness" up by 1 until it fixes the problem. You will need to do this for every copy(duplication) of the tree model you use.

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

I beleive that the tree's are generated using the metasphere's code (or parts there of) so they can interact if they're duplicated. Like CD said.

Yup, trees are "meta". AS

termites???!!!

Stareing cooly at AgentSmith while speaking in a deadpan voice.

DAZ probably fixed it when they added the metalab, which will metafy any object.

No actuall knowledge on this subject is possesed by xenic101. Any statments made are purely wild speculation. Still watching AgentSmith like a hawk. Go ahead blink, I dare ya.

How did ya know? Sigh, the secrets out....I've been busy metafying booleaned primitive groups and exporting them out to be rendered in 3DSMax... AS

Aye, but why would you use Bryce to make meta-objects, THEN export it, when Max can do all of that stuff better internally? Seems like the long way around... But it's nice to know that DAZ finally did something right. Bryce should have had export options at LEAST in version 4.

AgentSmith posted Fri, 08 April 2005 at 7:29 PM

J/K about the metafying, all in fun. But, people might export such a thing if they didn't own 3DSMax ($3,500). ;o) Export options - That WAS the plan, since Bryce was made (from early on) to be in a way, modular and accept plugins which would make new functions. It was always (hoped for) that, that part of Bryce would be finished, and the plugins could begin. AS
