Hiro is in the DAZ store now. I don't do much anime, but I'm tempted. I really like some of the hair they've made for him. It would look just as good on V3, SP, etc.
cmdr_kobosh posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 8:17 PM
yep, he looks realy good... i especially like the "real" morphs like that ronin character. i'm really thinking about getting him.
Byrdie posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 8:52 PM
If you're a PC member you get double the PC discount on him. But only today and tomorrow. I also used my April voucher and got him for only $3.39. What I really love is that he can use David's morphs, textures and ... wait for it ... CLOTHES!!!
randym77 posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 8:54 PM
Where'd you hear that about the discount? Is there a coupon or something? And does it apply to the bundle?
Byrdie posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 9:07 PM
From the Daz newsletter: "...from now until April 20 th, 2005 ( 23:59:59 MST ), Hiro 3.0 will be available at a 30% discount! As an added bonus, Platinum Club members will receive double the discount for the first 2 days Hiro 3.0 is on sale! That means that Platinum Club members can get Hiro 3.0 for as little as $8.39 until April 8th, 2005!! " No code or coupon, it gets taken off at the checkout. However, I believe it only applies to the figure, not the bundle, which contains clothes, hair & accessories and not Hiro; you gotta buy him separately. Good news is he's complete -- except for that appendage which poor dear Nigel also doth not got ;-)
randym77 posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 9:11 PM
Thanks! Didn't get the newsletter. (I'll probably get it next week, when it's too late!)
I guess I'll be buying him, then. Somehow, every time I decide that I don't need something or can wait to buy it, DAZ convinces me to whip out the plastic. I'm so weak...
Byrdie posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 9:21 PM
Last month, I swore I wouldn't even spend 20 bucks altogether on the March Madness sale. But then they just had to wave Bryce under my nose at a 70% discount and there went that resolution. Now I'm trying to talk myself into waiting for tomorrow -- more releases for this new guy coming out and some are supposed to be PC items. But that bundle looks so good. ::whimper::

OMG! Hiro freakin' kicks ASS!!!!!! I'm loving the dude! He's got the best expressions and poses. His hair is cool. I love those metal skin plates too. Damn. This is easily the coolest male figure ever made for Poser, imho! Weeeeee! bB

Yes, but the more unsupported characters, the angrier I get...until I turn into a green skinned Lou Ferrigou.

Me too, only scarier. But I get the feeling Hiro's probably gonna end up doing better than the rest, since they seem to be aiming for the rather sizeable anime market. And if one male figure gets a big following, they just might see the potential in supporting the rest of 'em. Yeah, I know. I'm a cock-eyed optimist. Probably a looney one, too.

Anyone here try that 'male conversion' for Aiko3 thats in Freestuff? I've stayed away from that. Wanted to try it but not keen on it. I get all my Aiko products over at Daz. I find the Anime expecially Aiko in the freestuff pretty much lacking. Message edited on: 04/08/2005 04:13

I bought Hiro last night. Just in case I'm kidnapped by aliens today, and miss the sale price. Hey, you never know...
I really like the way he looks. The other anime males I've seen have been a bit too girly for my tastes. I know, anime males are girly-looking. But I'm not really into anime. I just find the slightly bland, idealized/stylized look of anime figures to be very useful. Sometimes, M3 and V3 are too real, and figures like the Girl are too distinctive. Aiko and Hiro fill the bill. And DAZ figures get a lot more support than most, so hopefully Hiro will have plenty of clothes to wear. (Though I know better than to think his closet will be anywhere near as full as Aiko's!)
AntoniaTiger posted Fri, 08 April 2005 at 5:52 AM
My experience of Aiko "male" morphs is that they're let down by the head. The element of caricature gets in the way of a good male look. Not a problem with Little_Dragon's Millenium Catwoman. :)

"That's no remorphed anime girl! He's all Manga Macho! Weeee!" Come on, He was also a girl! They all are!! Unimesh rings any bell? So all Anime counter parts (and realistic ones, David and M3) are female based they are all clones of V3. With this point clear you could continue cheerleading.
hauksdottir posted Fri, 08 April 2005 at 9:50 AM
"Qin"? Why did they give a Japanese manga dude the name of the first Chinese emperor? (he built the great Wall of China among other achievements, but also destroyed entire branches of learning that he didn't like). Very powerful. Very respected. To this day his tomb hasn't been excavated. I guess if it's Asian, it is all the same... but who would name a French Champagne "Alfred"? Or a suit of Greek armor "Ramses"? Carolly
xoconostle posted Fri, 08 April 2005 at 9:52 AM
The figure comes with some unique facial morphs that instantly give it a variety of looks and expressions that clearly emulate the same in manga. Hiro is much better than I was expecting. Several of the outfits are fantastic. This was a great release.

dlfurman posted Fri, 08 April 2005 at 10:33 AM
Perhaps, while the orginal model is based on Japanese Anime, you can expand the possibilities into Chinese characters as well? Is the Eastern dragon model from DAZ a Japanese Type, Chinese type or Oriental type? Also do not the Chinese have some form of comics as well?

Just installed Hiro and like most of what I got, seems a good price. But ------- He is supposed to take David textures? I can get david skins on him except the thighs and calfs do not take the texture, only above and below! Tried both Hiro and Hiro to David options. Same deal. Also, the David Mat clothing sets I have do not seem to go on at all. Do I need to do something to make this work? Or did I misunderstand what DAZ meant when they said Hiro takes David textures? Anybody tried textures?
Byrdie posted Fri, 08 April 2005 at 3:16 PM
He has the same odd texture zones as Aiko 3, which means the leg textures must be applied manually. Personally I don't see this as any advantage, it's more like a mistake. And I wonder why they repeated it, since everybody complains so much? It's a very stupid way to map them, in my opinion.
plmcelligott posted Fri, 08 April 2005 at 4:05 PM
Hiro comes with MAT files to load the base M3 and D3 textures (If you have them). If you have third party textures, you'll have to manually modify it.
SpottedKitty posted Fri, 08 April 2005 at 6:53 PM
Just like Aiko (who has an A3->SP figure), Hiro has an H3->D3 figure which has Hiro's head with all its morphs and David's body without morphs, but it can take the David Body Morph INJs and the whole thing can take David (and, I think, M3?) textures either manually or by MATs. And as Byrdie said, watch out for the new leg material zones.
Bought him earlier tonight, I'll start playing with him at the weekend.

randym77, The hair is "R-lina_Hair.hr2" which comes with Rosy Cheeks Lina. I have her, so I spotted that hairstyle. Firebird confirmed the hairstyle on the DAZ forum. She makes great stuff. :D udhal, I was never in the camp that couldn't let go of the M2 mesh. I liked M3's look better than M2 and I'm not into body builders so I could care less. It took a bit of getting used to the Unimesh and Injection poses, but not for long. imho, M2 is still the best figure for male muscles, but that's what he was built for. I see the base mesh as not male or female, adult or child, tall or short, but a well made human mesh that in the hands of good 3D "sculptures" can become many faces and many looks. Some people see the Unimesh as a scam because they are buying the same mesh over and over. I see it was it's the cr2 and morphs that I'm buying. Make sense? hauksdottir, Why should Anime be limited to Japanese only? Even the Japanese animators make all kinds of different Anime males, American, French, African,... not just Japanese. The majority of the Disney films are animated in Japan. I don't think I would have any problems with any kind name given to Hiro, people can name their characters whatever they want. xoconostle, I'm surprised the morphs are included too! That's cool. I don't mind paying 3 bucks for him. :D dlfurman, Sure. The same Caspdes is doing an additional morph pack for Hiro like Brom. So there will be alot of possiblities very soon. About the Dragon, I did a little research when Eastern Dragon came out. And overall, imho, the Japanese and Chinese Dragon looks pretty much the same. I think it's just the symbolism, meaning, and decorative and drawing style that changes. Anime artsits in China? Sure. I don't know of any off hand, but hell, we have American manga artisits too, and I even know some from South America! It's just a style. Like Rock and Roll, and Hamburgers. A good idea spreads. It's just that this one started in the East and not here in America. Asian cultures have been doing line art reproductions way before Europeans "discovered" the Asian line art print style for print in the 1800s. Byrdie, I meet you at the dumpster. All the cool things are going to make me broke! Damn! :P About the mat zones, it is irrating, but I suspect this is a new trend for all Mill 3 figures going forward. You can make your mat poses for Aiko adn Hiro with a text editor, or do it by hand. Maybe if we hound the texture makers, they will make updates to their Mat Poses for Hiro and Aiko? Okay... off to play! Weee! bB
Byrdie posted Fri, 08 April 2005 at 8:22 PM
Might be a new trend but I'm hanged if I can figure out why. As for the dumpster, I'll save you a place. But keep an eye out for Blackie, that darn crow is greedy!
RHaseltine posted Sat, 09 April 2005 at 9:13 AM Online Now!
The extra zones allow more Second Skin options, without having to composite the clothing texture over the skin texture. In DAZ|Studio it's simple to select an appropriate surface, such as SkinFeet, hit the Copy button, select the new surfaces, hit Paste: I think you can do much the same in Poser 5 and 6 using the Material Room (except you can't multi-paste) but I haven't tried it yet. For Poser 4/ProPack it is a nuisance - time to load Mat pose Edit I suppose.
AntoniaTiger posted Sat, 09 April 2005 at 11:01 AM
This was done with a Victoria texture and an Aiko pose. A bit of finger-tweaking might be needed, but that seems a very good start.
