800x600 1024x768 1280x1024 I'm pretty sure the average is 1024x768. Presently setting up a site & I've been switching from my usual 1280x1024 down one size to make sure everything fits properly. Thanks in advance. ICM

1280x1024 is the highest I can go. Probably a monitor restriction. My last laptop was higher and I miss that extra res. I think the average may be 1024 for non-artistic types. But if you do stratified random sampling of CG's you're probably find it's higher. I did an O-level in statistics in 1987 and finally got to put "stratified random sampling" into a sentence. And people said it was a worthless course. ;-)

PC 1280x1024 Laptop 1024x768 For websites, I tend now to use a dynamic CSS2 layout with a minimum width 620, but scaleable upwards (At some point I'll have to update my home one...) Has to be said I think average is 1024x768 (955x600 for website), and sub 800x600 (760x420 for website) is pretty rare.

to be compatible with as many browsers as possible verify you're site with www.w3.org. Take into consideration of the following. - 800x600 is still being used by older audience who's eye sight will not allow them ot use higher resolutions. - You will have visitors who are color blind so some consideration for colors in your website layout should be considered as well. - Not everyone uses Internet Explorer which is why I recommend verifying your code with www.w3.org and try not to get too fansy with Plugins of any kind as they may not be compatible with all browsers. Or you can say the hell with all that and just do your site the way you want to, but the number of return visitors might not be as much.

1024 x 768 I saw a setup that is probably kind of like Drac's at the Microsoft visitor's center. I used to have a tracking service for my website but it stopped being free so I dropped it. It could get resolution and number of colors info.

1024x768 here. I know this has been brought up once before, but which kind of monitor is best for working with CG stuff. LCD or CRT??

Incarnadine ( ) posted Wed, 13 April 2005 at 6:11 PM

CRT for my preferences, better contrast and colour gammut. Also no latency issues when gamming alyhough I hear that LCD have gotten better.

miden1138 ( ) posted Wed, 13 April 2005 at 10:03 PM

Just switched mine up a few days ago to 1280 x 1024. My wife actually found that if you up the dpi (or ppi) of the screen, from 96 to 120, you can actually have about the same text size as 1024 x 768. We can both read everything just fine.

pauljs75 ( ) posted Thu, 14 April 2005 at 12:27 AM

1024 x 768 on both compys... Although the desktop one can go higher, performance gets bad and the screen starts to flicker. I'll have to wait for a better 'puter before I do much beyond XGA size. (Unless I'm planning on making something for print.) At school, I think the Macs are 1600 x ? Well at least my typical web pages appear smaller on 'em.
