Subject: Problem with soft edges (phong shading)

Hello everybody, I hope somebody can help me with this problem. Ive just finished modeling the Dornier DO335 and Im about to start with the UV-mapping, texturing and bump mapping. The model will be released as a poser product later on. As you can see in the image Im having problems with the phong shading. It looks OK in the C4D-version but the hard edges (edges with broken phong shading) turn soft (red areas) when imported into Poser (exported as obj from C4D). What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

This is not a shading problem. Poser attempts to smooth out all corners, you'll have to split the vertices on the sharp edges. You can do that in UVMapper, but you can also do it in your modeling app. Poser will not smooth edges of an object, only corners.

The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter

I forgot, you can also do this in Poser itself using the Grouping Tool. Create a new group, name it rWingFlap, select the polygons of the right wing flap. Same for the left wing flap, the lights, the exhausts, the engine. Then create another group called Dornier, add all polygons, and then remove the rWingFlap group from the Dornier group. Also remove the those other groups you just created. Last phase: click Spawn Props. Export the set of new props as .OBJ and leave Weld Identical Vertices UNchecked. Reimport with Weld Identical Vertices UNchecked and you should be OK. Hope this helps, Steven.

The trick was to disconnetc the balooned polys in C4D before exporting. As ususal there are several ways to solve a problem. Thanks everybody!
