Subject: How much is too much?

I think this is too much. We should be responsable where we put our renders. I noticed that most people would rather post their Mixed Medium renders in the Bryce or Poser gallery. Is it because fewer people look at the mixed medium gallery? Is it really so important to get comments? What qualifies as a Bryce image? I understan when its a Poser character rendered in Bryce, a little post-work here and there. Is there a spicific rule on this? I mean, can I use a photo of a rocky mountain and add a Bryce rock and call it a Bryce image?

Apparently for some, it is that important. I draw the line in my own creations when I've reached a point of changing what was the original render drastically with postwork. As far as compositions like the one in question, I've used 2D and added bryce rendered components. However those are posted in Mixed Medium. Ultimately, I can only police my own Genre accuracy.

I personally use one simple rule. If 50% or more is done in Bryce, i post in the Bryce gallery. If its less, its going somewhere else.

I would have to agree with Rochr. Being that Bryce allows import of 2D and 3D material and objects as part of its options, the limit line becomes very blurry as to where Bryce starts and Bryce ends. Some would say that simply using Bryce as the render engine for a scene, qualifies the image as Bryce. To further complicate the issue, should all Bryce scenes that incorporate imports of any kind be slated as mixed medium?

Really should be in mixed-media, imo, as most of it seems to be a photograph on a 2D face. (save for a tree and a small horse) AgentSmith

hmm..actually, I go with whatever program I finish in..;) and to be honest, not that I'm trying to stir up trouble, but has anyone noticed (Bryce and Poser) how many tutorials rely on postwork?..;) If you render the completed thing in Bryce, I guess is should go in Bryce..

I used a photo on a cube in Bryce, no postwork, but because most of the image was the photo, I felt it belonged in Mixed media. Artists' choice. For me its a percentage thing.

( I use a photo of a rocky mountain and add a Bryce rock and call it a Bryce image? ) No...but if you add a tree and a rock...then do some heavy post work... it could be a Bryce image...if you have Bryce installed on at least one of your computers.

IMO, if you put it together in bryce by using poser models then render it in bryce and add some post work to the image by using PS or PSP then it should go in mixed media.
If you import a 3ds, poser and lwo model into bryce render it then do post work in ps or psp it should also go in the mixed media.
If you use anything that is done in bryce then it should be posted in the bryce gallery.

Mixed media means an image put together by using different programs or 2d images in it.

But since many of us count on using models made in different programs and using post work for the final image then we can't go saying who can post where.

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

what. since all but 17 of buzz69's other 144 pictures are in the Bryce Gallery, he probably posted it there out of habit. why does it matter? at what point did experimenting with matching lighting in Bryce to an existing photograph, disqualify someone from the use of the Bryce Gallery. when did someone with one gallery image and 12 posts to the forum, all over a year old, gain the right to complain about what someone else has uploaded to their gallery? welcome back ConfidentialMajic. xenic101 :)

Aye, my thing is that he's misrepresenting the Bryce program itself, and basically making a mockery of it. It's happened many times before, and in all different forms of CGI, not just Bryce. It's why, in the Rhino forums, it's required to post some WIP threads if you want to enter their contests. That way nobody can cheat by using other people's models. In this particular image, it's just a deer, untextured, and a tree? I think this artist can do a much better job than that.
