I would like to propose that there be an additional software forum, for Painter. Judging by the comments in the art gallery, many Renderosity members use this software in their artwork.

That's a good suggestion. How many others would like to see a Painter forum?

wyrwulf posted Sun, 28 January 2001 at 1:08 PM

I think that Painter is used enough to warrant it's own forum, like PhotoShop and PaintShopPro. On the other hand, the other two major forums have all 2D in one forum, as these three programs are actually similar enough to use most of the tutorials, tricks, and techniques in any of the programs.

I'm not sure that I understand what you're saying, Wyrwulf. Did you mean that PhotoShop, PaintShopPro, and Painter are too similar to warrant individual forums?

wyrwulf posted Sun, 28 January 2001 at 2:22 PM

Whatever works for the site. I'm just stating my feelings on the programs and how the other forums do it.

I use Painter 6 and have many MANY questions. I've asked a few at the 2D Forum, and I don't think I ever got a reply. It seems as though Meta C used that same degree of intuitiveness on the Painter manuals, as they did with Poser. ;) Painter Forum? Hell yeah! Bring it on! --Mike

I'd definatly use a 'Painter' forum. Great Idea Gem GG

Intuiveness on a MetaC manual? snicker They made the aftermarket book people rich. I use Painter5.5 very ineptly... I think we could stand a painter forum - I use photoshop and the two don't seem that similar to me. I like the idea.

You know,I was just looking at the manual again, and alot now seems much clearer than before. The lasst time I had a look in it, it seemed pretty bad, but now that I've had to learn much of it on my own, often by accident, the manual actually makes sense here and there. I don't really understand the instructions for creating new "weaves", or "nozzles", and the info on creating image maps for web pages seems pretty sketchy...well there's alot that's sketchy, actually, LOL. Ah, maybe one day we Painters will have our day in the sun. :)

Gem_719 posted Thu, 08 February 2001 at 2:25 PM

Okay, since there seems to be at least some interest in a new Painter forum, what's the next step? Do I somehow formally request it of the Admin people? if so, how? BTW - I just yesterday posted a Painter question on the 2d forum... no responses. Had to post on the Poser forum before I got any attention.

rcook posted Thu, 08 February 2001 at 2:30 PM

We're watching Gem. Just trying to determine if there is enough stated support for such a forum. And it appears there probably is.

Ironbear posted Thu, 08 February 2001 at 2:32 PM

Posting in this thread should do it, rcook usually checks these periodicaly. If not, send him an email via the site mail [click on the highlighted name in a post to get to the mail screen].

Can I vote twice? ;)

MikeJ posted Thu, 08 February 2001 at 5:29 PM

Hey Bart, eat MY shorts! What are you on anyway? I don't recall anyone inviting you here. "...vot twice..." GIMME a BREAK wouldja? Shhheeeshhh... Gem, I saw your question in the Poser forum, but I didn't want to answer there. I never did have Painter 5 or 5.5, as I got v. 6 right after it was released. But v.6 came with all of the v.5 brushes (on the CD as extras), and using that to compare, I would say that 6 was a considerable improvement over 5. What I particularly like about 6 is that it has the image map creator. I hear that 5.5 had it though, and I also hear that maybe somehow 6's version isn't quite as good somehow. Something along the lines of how Word 97 was better ("safer") than Word 2000. But the 6.1 patch has in fact made my Wacom tablet more stable, and for that alone I would consider it worth it, plus 6 with the ".1" patch has a few new features. I would say yeah, if you're a Painter lover as I am coming to be, go for the upgrade. Who knows what Corel is up to these days? Could be they just wanted to toss us a bone to make us think they're doing something. shrug But I do remember hearing that there were no plans for a new Painter any time soon, and frankly, I'm not that concerned, because even v.6 by itself is still one helluva cool app! :) -Mike

And just so nobody accuses me of being overly mean to Bart up above, I want to mention I've known him for many years, and he lives in Florida too. Which is probably why he figured he could vote twice. ;) LOL

Gem_719 posted Thu, 08 February 2001 at 8:35 PM

Thanks for the opinion, Mike. Added to the others I got in the Poser forum, I decided to to go for it. And thanks everyone else for your votes for a Painter forum.

Ok, we now host a Painter forum.

Ok, Gem... there's a tradition that since you started the forum, you get to moderate it. ;)
