I won the MeshBox halfling village set in a comp. Been playing around with it. I feel it needs a couple or so halflings, but I am not sure quite how to go about making them. Anyone got any ideas where I can find a hobbit or two?

How adorable! Don't know where there are any hobbits, but there is a dwarf over at PoserPros

hmm..at the risk of overly cute..there's a bunch of characters with names like Koshini, Hiro, Sarah, Laroo, Scrum (good Gollum..;), and I've seen some dwarves in Poser pics, but not sure where they came from. Sixus1 (poserfreebies.com), Daz 3d (some free characters), Mayadoll (well, with enough tweaks..;), check freebies here, at 3dcommune (almost a mirror site for this place, go figure..;) hope this is enough to get you started.

Nothing wrong with using people in this village...

If you have Poser 5, there are a couple of hobbits at PhilC's site, based on Will and Penny. Look in the freestuff archive.

There are a lot of things worse than dying, being afraid all the time would be one.

Great models of the buildings and such I think a more golden hour lighing would be appropriate. Can't help you with the hobbits though. Great work.

Since the word 'halfling' implies that they are not a whole person, or only half-person, the little kneebiters prefer to be called hobbits. I second philC's hobbits.

Couldn't help you with finding the halflings, but I must say-- awesome work:)

Thats a real nice piece of work, hope you find your hobbits. I'd also like to see Gandalf coming down that road at the back!

How does this look as a hobbit? I do have P5 somewhere, but I decided I hated it, cursed ever buying it and took it off my HD. Can't be bothered to put it back just for a few halflings, so had a go with the P4 figs I do have. difficult to make clothes fit the way I have warped the body, so he is wearing a skin tight shirt. :-)

If you will put him in the pic with a perspective as your original one, it's okay. If closer, you need to get rid of the creases at the hip and knee, as well as fix the left elbow-forearm thingy. And you need a better texture for the hairy feet. Possibly make the feet a bit bigger, too. Otherwise, it looks okay. BTW, that first pic is quite nice.

Where can someone buy that village?

Quest posted Sat, 23 April 2005 at 10:30 PM

Very nicely done Chohole and congrats in winning the village! If you made the hobbit less muscular, less v shaped upper body, I think it would help.

Holy crap!! This has got to be one of the best images of anything I've ever seen ANYWHERE. I kid you not, I'd dream to be able to create villages like this!!

Where can you but the village....here of course in the market place. Or if you have a paypal account you can get it direct from meshbox. Only the buildings mind, the rest is all my own work.

Oh an BTW Quest..that hobbit is based on the original preteen bot from Daz, which of course is itself based on vicky. Maybe I will get a better result if I try using the preschooler?

well I went with a sunset look, and kept the original scale, so the hobbits are quite small, and so any defects don't show. :-)
