Hi all, I have been admiring the fractal pics I have seen around for awhile. So I went to look into having a go at it, however I find I'm already lost lol. I was wondering wich program you choose to use and why? I have found a few freeware ones, but since I have no experience with fractals I have no way to gauge the differences. Thanks in advance.

hi,i choose to start with uf, simply it was the first i ever heard of. since there is so much to do in this programm, i tried and bought it later on. you can get a trial programm for one month free.since i discovered rendorosity i found that there are so many programms, that im glad i started with only one. if you look at the images of the artists , they often say in which programm they made it. if you like what they do , then i think you start best with that program. or, you ask, in what program they made it. hope to be of some help. good luck with your choises. monica

Hello there, I started out with Fractal Explorer, a freeware programme. and I got hooked about 4 years ago. http://www.eclectasy.com/Fractal-Explorer/ A good friend then got me UF3 which I am learning, very slowly, but there are some great Fractal Artists here who absolutely get the last drop out of this programme with beautiful results. My advice would be to download and try a free one first, you will always get help and advice from here on anything, they are generous with their time. Jennyfnf

I agree with Monica. Spend some time in the fractal gallery and see what program is being used to make the kind of images that you like.

I love my Apophysis (www.apophysis.org) - so simple, yet so complex... and it's free! I've been playing weith a number of different fractal apps lately - most of them free also... For a really good list of fractal apps (and links to their home pages) - try the following link... http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/Fractal_Software.html I think you'll find something that appeals from there... lol! There are so many good fractal programs. I prefer UF or FE, but I think making great fractals depends mostly on how much time, practice, and patience you wish to spend on any particular program you decide on. None get fantastic results right off the bat. And any tutorials you can get for the program you decide to use is a great way to get started. Good luck! Marion

A few years ago I downloaded Fractal Explorer ,which Im still using because I like the results .You
ll need also a program like Adobe Photoshop for post processing ,but that can wait till later ,just start practising your fractals first and see if you like it . Have fun , Dina

Thank you all for your advice. I looked around and think that Ultra Fractal (I believe) is great but I won't buy yet in case I can't get into this lol. I have downloaded apophysis but didn't see that fractal explorer so I may check that too ;) Again thank you all I appreciate hearing from experience.
