Subject: How do I fix these shadows?

Whenever I render my characters in poser, I get these odd shadows on their faces that don't look natural. I've tried switching cameras and lighting effects. I've also tried switching textures and I've toyed with the transparency and highlights in the render materials. Any help would be greatly appreciated. PapaBlueMarlin

Try turning up the map size on the lights.. it will take longer to render but your shadows will look more natural. Select a light and look over in the channel dials.. it's there. Hope that helps Styxx

A cheap solution is to turn off shadow casting for all the lights except one of them. My computer is pretty slow. And that's how I deal with it. ScottA

Something you might want to try is double click on the hair and turn off the hair shadows. Just a thought. skee

If you're talking about the streaks on the face (like the one on the chin and above the eyebrow) I don't have a clue why those are there. But yes when you select a light go to the map dial in the side bar and play around with the size settings. Max is 1024 which clears up a lot of the artifacting in the shadows. Most noticable with shadows that are cast by thin lines/objects. But sometimes a lower setting seems to work better. Go figure. So play around with this setting. Remember that Poser is creating shadows with a shadow map, which is not raytracing. But that's another story. Hope this helps. James

or easier yet just put shadows to .300 instread of 1.000 This clears alot of shadows effects up.

Are you sure the shadows in the face aren't a texture that went wrong? Is this Vicky? If so, there are two different maps for head and body.

No, the texture is good. This is a P4 female and I've used the texture before without having these problems.

Is that transmapped hair? Make sure the transmap is grayscale (not just RGB that looks B&W). And make sure the black areas are genuine black.
