Let see your souvenirs or memento's, if they be from a day out or a long trip, what have you brougt back to keep to remind you of the event. This is a piece of glassware from the Island of Gozo it reminds me of crystal clear waters and a tiny green island with the bluest seas I have ever seen.

And every one said, 'If we only live,
We too will go to sea in a Sieve,---
To the hills of the Chankly Bore!'
Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.

This is cheating a bit, but... The cat was brought from Egypt by a friend, the tiny amphora is a souvenir from the island of Kos in Greece, and the keyring is Gaudi's Drac from Parc Guell in Barcelona. The photo is awful. Still, I'm posting it. PS. You haven't been to Dalmatia, have you? :-)

oooo, so close...almost had it! ;] Nice kitty there...and beautiful piece of glassware. Here is a nameplate for an office made in Okinawa, Japan while I was there...from my folks. The Mickey Mouse is a keychain from the Magic Kingdom - Orlando, FL.

Nicely done Erlik it doesn't matter about quality of photos for this it is the subject which counts most. Mine is not a good photo either the sides of the light box are reflecting off the glass - no I have not been to Dalmatia.
Been to Kos - I love Greece - nearly posted a little model of the parthenon :))

i like picking up a glass paperweight or piece of ceramic art when going someplace special, like here on the fireplace mantle, if i'm on a budget, then it ends up being a magnet for the fridge (which you saw) the elk horns were a souvenir brought back from Colorado (just like this, i swear we didn't kill it! lol :)

You have a wonderful collection Cindy. Have to remember when us Europeans talk about other countries they are probably a lot nearer to us, than you travelling to the next state :)

uhhhhh...noo...it does matter about the quality of photos here. The encouragement is to try to take the best shots you can of the subject. Set up a backdrop,or try the best lighting. After all this is a Photography forum. Well this is just one mans opinion. I say do your best.

kemal helped me make a collage this morning. we buy a few souvenirs, but the most special memento i have is this light box that kemal made for me. well, i did help make the box.

anyway, kemal made the box out scrap wood. the shells and sand that are glued on it are from our honeymoon. we had a beach wedding and the sand is sand we were standing on when we got married almost 8 years ago. We were married on Fernadina Beach, Florida.

The shells come from there, as well as from Cumberland Island, which is off the coast of Georgia & Florida. We spent part of our honeymoon there. A few of the shells come from Gulf Shores, Alabama, where we stayed for 3 weeks on our vacation 2 years ago. We went with our best friends who got married there.

The orange rock on the top of the box is from Cave City, Kentucky (Mammoth Cave area). Kemal and i went there 1 month after we first met; it was our first vacation together. (yeah...we fell in love...not at first sight but pretty damn fast! LOL!)

anyway, Kemal wanted to make something special from our little mementos. he even wired it up. it has a small lightbulb behind it and we use it as a nightlight. i didn't have it lit for this image though.

the photos are all pics i when we were in Gulf Shores 2 years ago.

anyway, i took the pic this light box morning and spent about 4 hours on this image. i know it's not that good, but it made me happy to make it and to share it with ya'all! i did do my best. this kind of thing is really hard for me.

Richard...luv that glass piece!!! sigh I would love to see that island!
Cindy...what an extraordinary collection you have! so many wonderful things!
Kort...beautiful engraved art!
Erlik...wonderful collection!

Thanks, people. Yeah, I took a bit of care with the composition, but the lighting is the built-in flash on C-5050. Which cannot be used up close because of the lens shadow. Funny thing with the souvenirs, I usually bring to other people stuff connected to the place where I was. And forget to take souvenirs for myself. :-) So, I'm picking the next one, right? On Saturday? It surprised me that so much time passed between the first post and mine. Where have you been? :-)

Ah yes souvenirs!! I like that!! Beautiful glass work on this Rich! Erlik, u are cheating indeed! ;P Hehe!! Egypt has always been a fascination for me! Hope i'll go there someday! Kort, this is so beautiful!! I love this! So full of character and with ur name on it! Man this is a cool gift they gave u there! Cyn, I love that collection of urs!! I've spotted those 2 'lil masks especially, the green and the purple one! I just love that kind of things so much! Sheila darling, did u think of selling this collage as a postcard?? Cos really, I can see this on beach stores along the coast! Jimbo, now this is a precious one!!! Man, this must worth lots of money today! Here's my Ottoman pipe, that I bought in Turkey, in Cappadoccia (not sure of the spelling). It's made of black stone. That region of the world is totally fascinating and people live in troglodytes there. When they want to buy a "house" they say "we're gonna buy a rock"! True! It was such a magical trip! Cappadoccia is where they made the movie "Dune". No need for fake backgrounds deco or anything, it DOES look like in the movie!!

cynlee posted Wed, 11 May 2005 at 10:58 AM
