Well...I'm no great technical expert on Poser but from what I understand, the lighting models were changed pretty drastically in Poser 6 from 5 (I went from 4 to 6, so I can't verify this myself). Along with the "no light" effect you mentioned, I've noticed that when doing a render with "ignore shader trees" checked, I'll sometimes also get some weird background and floor shading effects (i.e: shaded when they shouldn't have been).

My answer to your question is No! But (if this is something that you only encounter when using old saved light sets?) then I have also battled with the issue you describe (though for me it is when I DON'T ignore shader trees that the black renders arise). I am of the opinion that the cause of my own problems was related to some aspect of lighting that was inherited from another set when I saved my problem light sets. I'm still only guessing as to whether this may be connected with shadow cameras, or whether it may have taken root with some other aspect of lighting (e.g. the 'shaderNode' values in the light's parameter properties window) which also appear to be inherited when a light set is applied 'over-the-top' of an existing set prior to being re-saved.Message edited on: 05/01/2005 06:01

This scene was created with the default p6 James, defualt lights and an imported room from the figures library. I have to use the "ignore shader trees" option and p4 render engine because there is extensive bump mapping on the room and several of my props, and unfortunately, they only look good with the p4 render engine, the p5/p6 bump mapping is terrible, no matter how I try and adjust the bump mapping or try to use displacement mapping.
