Gonna be useful...but as what? Billowing curtain? Flowing magma? From Photoshop CS2. Using the "fibers" and "liquify" filters in 16-bit grayscale, imported into Bryce as a .pgm AgentSmith

Cool result, I like the fibers filter, haven't tried liquid yet.

you should probably get a band-aid...

ddaydreams posted Thu, 05 May 2005 at 9:30 PM

Band aid did not work. Next time I'll tear the front. Have you ever tried to stitch your own back, it's very difficult.

16-bit = clean. This one kinda reminded me of a rubbery item. AS

Blonde hair dipped in tomato sauce? Hey, if you change it to a water texture it looks like a fast river flowing over rocks. I could use that in my current scene!

With the water texture it looks a lot more like that stuff you wrap breakables in. pop, pop...pop, pop............pop. AS

(Those raised bumps are part of the terrain, There is no bump map being used) I see what you mean, though, with the water aspect. AS

I was talking about your first render up at the top, not the bubble wrap one. Your second render reminds me of Hi-tech Kevlar.

If only we could do that with Terrains....but, then of course they would be called displacement maps...(grrr). AS

BIG request for Bryce 6! DAZ Studio can already use them, as of right now, no Bryce can. Basically; you know how a bump map, gives a texture bump? Well, a displacement map gives a bump by actually changing the geometry of the model at the time of rendering. While a terrain or lattice in Bryce can only "flat", as they are made up of just height, a disaplcement map can be wrapped in any way or direction. Let me show you an example;

Here's what this image looks like when you use as a displacement...

AgentSmith posted Sat, 07 May 2005 at 10:33 AM

And, the sphere will have no more polys than what it originally did, so you can use images as displacemnts on VERY low poly objects, and have a scene with tons of detail and hardly any polygons. Here's Studio rendering brick on a SIX poly cube. While you could do the same cube in Bryce with Terrains, the resulting mesh would weigh in at over 12.5 million polygons. (6 sides, of a 1024x1024 image) 6 polys vs. 12.5 Million polys... Bryce 6 NEEDS displacements. AS

Aye, if Bryce 6 had displacement, that would really rock!
