I've been reading a few posts here and there about poser 6 crashing alot on the new mac os 10.4 tiger. Is anyone running it with poser 4 and 5? If so, is it stable?
I'm looking to upgrade my mac but am unsure whether to stick with the older os rather than os10.4 tiger.
I'd really appreciate any feedback anyone has
Cheers

Hi stevehunt, It think the problems are with all Poser versions. It's mainly with the dialogue windows. Word is that SR1 is due soooon, so I would recommend holding fire just a little longer before you upgrade. Did you know that Rendosity has a Mac Forum, for these types of questions? Cheers

I have had this problem. Never had a problem with Poser5 on 10.3.8. Since upgrading to 10.4 neither Poser5 or 6 work at all. After writing notes to both, I was told that I need to wait for the upgrade for both the OS and Poser. Frustrating to say the least. Stick with 10.3.9 until the upgrades are in place. I'm sorry that I did not!

Yes Poser 6 crashes in Tiger as soon as you hit a button and Poser 5 hides its e. g. save windows (in Tiger worked fine in Panther), so you can't save and mostly it crashes after that. I already had the poser 6 problem in panther, crashed all 5 minutes, haven't done one single render with it. wait with the update and wait even longer before using poser 6 on a mac. the only thing CL told me was also to wait for the update. well, I should have asked them if they would wait with the payment too:-)

I've been using Poser 6 successfully on Tiger; it doesn't always "crash as soon as you hit a button", but it will SOMETIMES get itself into a state where it reliably crashes when you try to select from a popup menu (like the figure or body parts menu off the Pose window). Some people see crashes in rendering, but I generally don't. I had the same popup window problem with P5 on Panther, though generally only in the material room node menus. (Though a more common problem was that the popups were only partly populated... without any node type I might have actually wanted.) And as for "Renderosity has a Mac Forum", kaveman; yeah, it does. It also, surprisingly enough, has a Poser forum, and this is a Poser issue. Makes perfect sense to talk about this stuff in either place; and even, in fact, in both places.

Thanks to everyone for the replies ..I think I'll carry on with the old os and poser 4 and 5 at least this way I can still reliably produce work without too much fuss. It amazes me how the mac is still considered the poor cousin by Curious Labs!

dbutenof, surprisingly enough, it also makes sense check out the Mac forum. Let's see topic 2, 5, 7 and 9, right on the front page are about Poser and Tiger issues. Topic 30 of this forum is about Tiger and Poser. There are also other threads on other sites with long discussions concerning Poser and Tiger. They all result in the same conclusion. We have been told that it can't be fixed by us and that we need to wait for the SR.

What is still the case as I write this is that if you go to Curious Labs site to buy Poser 6 for Mac, there is no warning that there is any issue for Tiger Users who buy Poser. (I can't find any warning ther, but correct me if I am wrong!) As we are reliably informed that a service pack is in preparation to fix the Tiger problems (which make the software totally unusable in my experience), a note could be added by Curious Labs that warns Poser 6 may not be compatible with some Tiger Installations, and advising Tiger users to wait for a fix. Evidently that might compromise the successful launch of their product, but can the alternative loss of confidence be sustained? Bugs happen, especially with OS updates, but not every customer has searched the internet's forums to be forewarned when they pay hundreds of dollars and only then discover they have to wait for a fix. I am waiting for Curious Labs reply following my purchase, but I think they have a lot of similar feedback at the moment so I am not holding my breath.. Also Poser 5 also exhibits exactly the same symptoms of crashing since Tiger was installed...

Same problem here on my mac (Dual 2.5) with Poser 5 after upgrading to Tiger. :( Worked fine in the beginning, but after the first crash it constantly keeps on crashing when I try use the pose bodyparts window. Very annoying!!! Any ideas if CL will fix this for P5 as well? I don't have P6 and I also don't see any reason to get it, since the new versions doesn't offere any enhancements that I have any use for. ;)
