Here I am, and glad to be back with you my old friends! For my comeback I've tried to do some advanced modeling with bryce. This alien head is entirely made with bryce, no external meshes, just some B&W height maps. I've simply use some terrains, symetrical lattices and metaballs. I did not spend time on the textures as I was focused this time on the modeling. I hope you like it! Warm regards

pidjy posted Fri, 13 May 2005 at 6:47 PM

Here are some screen shots.. As you can see there is not so much stuff used in bryce.. and the secret of this model is in the Height maps used (drawn in PS)

Cheers!

great modeling, are u the same flak from the ut2004 map?

for some free stuff i made
and for almost daily fotos

Flak posted Fri, 13 May 2005 at 8:48 PM

Nope - haven't had anything to do with UT2004. I'm the Flak with the unhealthy appreciation of dead things ;) Though there's a guy named Flakmonkey over in the maya area (I think) that I've inadvertently confused the hell out of some people with the similarities in my and his nicks.

Wow pidjy. Excellent bryce alien. It's amazing what models can be made using all the tools bryce provides.

RodsArt posted Sat, 14 May 2005 at 2:48 AM

WTG pidj, I remember some of your other work having extreme details with greyscale heightmaps. Outstanding. ICM

Killer work man.....very impressive!

FranOnTheEdge posted Sun, 15 May 2005 at 4:20 AM

I was just wondering why there is a B&W map with eye sockets when no eyes (or sockets) appear in the finished head?

Obviously because part of the alien is modelled on a human skull.......?

I did wonder if that was it, yes. Or maybe the alien has its sensory organs there - sonar detectors... ? Or is this ready for the human/alien clone part? LOL

You can actually see it faintly through the skin in the first image - excellent touch.

Incredible work pidjy! I knew you hadn't forgotten how to Bryce; it's like riding a bicycle.

Rayraz posted Sun, 15 May 2005 at 6:11 PM

Actually, the artist who designed the original Xenomorph used the human skull as inspiration for the base of the creatures head. I have even heard that for the sculpture of his alien he used a REAL human skull?
