Subject: Why do magnets eat poo so bad?

Ok, half the time when I use magnets I put the zone where I want and then move the mag around until I do whatever it is I want to do. Half the time, I do all that and... nothing. Nothing happens. No deformation. WTF? Am I missing something?

Two important steps: 1) Where is the magnet base? 2) Have you CALIBRATED the magnet base? I always place my base, then calibrate it by making its scale 100%, then make the base and mag itself Invisible, then position and tweak the mag zone. Then I start adjusting the invis mag til I get the desired results. The calibration step is something I had never heard of before I read a Doc Geep tutorial, but Ive never had a magnet fail to effect the surface I was working on since doing this. Oh also, VERY important, make sure you did spawn the magnet from the correct object/body part you want to effect. Ive not paid attention and discovered I had spawned with the wrong area selected before. Hope this helps, Logan

Just be patient, Blow. Magnets are your friends, once you learn the basics. But if the zone is misplaced, or if there are too few polygons in the zone to be deformed, then they won't work.

eeewwww...! It is a well known fact that magnets don't like eating poo...! Try Whiskas cat food instead. Magnets love it... particularly the metal containers :-)

Still no luck. The zone isn't misplaced because I move it all around the object and try morphing and still nothing happens. It's not like I have no idea how they work...they just don't sometimes and I can't figure out what I'm doing differently from when they work the way they're supposed to. Calibration's not it, nor is too few polygons since I've had them work and then not work ON THE SAME FRIGGIN OBJECT ON THE SAME SPOT! I'm wondering if it's a bug or something. Anyone ever had the same problem before?

It might be a bug, but if the object has any morphs applied, the actual location of the unmorphed surface affected by the zone may differ from the appparent location of the surface.

Also make sure you didn't have the body part locked before adding the magnet. If you add a magnet to a locked body part, the body part will get a zeroed magnet dial.

Yep, that was it. Doesn't work if the part is locked. Thanks R_Hatch. Why does it do that, though? Seems kind of pointless.

I'll second what mateo said. Make sure you're working with unmorphed parts. I had all manner of trouble with magnets until that was pointed out to me. Now, magnets do exactly what I expect them to do.

It took me a while, but this is the "Naughty Body Bikini" top by "macmullin" magnatized if you will, to fit the "Kielo" chracter by "As Shanim". This was my first go at magnets, and it took about 5 or 6 tries, but none the less, I think it turned out ok. Im working on other clothing packs as well to see if i can get them to work too. I hate the standard V3 body. Patients is the key here. regards, E
