I like the color here better Doug. I like the red. For me BW depends on the subject. Portraits, strong shapes, and textures..... some images will work in both color and BW.... Sepia is tough... I'm not fond of it usually, unless as you said there's something there that harkens back to day gone by.... otherwise I'm not really into it.
I am, therefore I create.......

OK Michelle thanks.Leads me to what counts when making an image in Black&White.I see so many that look very good and wonder what settings they played with to get the best effect. whether it be mid tones or where you concentrate shadows. I have tried then just forget it and go to sepia. I like real grey tones without the blue in them. But still like keeping a lot of depth which is quite the challenge for me.Especially as you say for portraits.Sort of where you feel the colour, but it is in B&W

most definatley color, the sepia in this looks a bit flat with the overcast sky so there's not a big tonal range here :]

"When I tone one to sepia or even just grayscale it I am actually hiding what I think are not so good of colours." I must admit that I do that too on some of my shots, when I think the colors suck and I can't get them right! But, I'm a sepia fan and, for me, it almost works at all times!! I mean, I always love a sepia image! That's so much a matter of taste that it's impossible to give advice on this I'm afraid! As for the present pic, I like both versions really, for different reasons of course. I couldn't tell which one I like best! And yes I know I'm not helping at all here! :(

Ah but yes, I do agree with Cyn about the contrasts in the sepia version! I think to lighten the shadows a 'lil would be better! Just my 27 pennies huh! ;)

On this one I agree with Pascale...the color one was better but with contrasting tones..it now has a dramtic sky impact, wich I like plus a something warmer and rich!

lol wow thanks for the compliment i forgot to mention, i lit it from the top in a light yellow orange then lit it from the bottom with a whitish yellow then went to sepia clarified it a slight tad then for the final effect the redid it in sepia.. and sharpened a slight bit... i added a larger frame then cropped it so the frame would be smaller as to not take away from the image.. i am flattered my email is kimarie_davis at hotmail.com i have a hard time ever doing the same thing twice.. many time s i got it just right then crashed then couldnt do it again... its like gambaliing ..lol .. you made my day with your remark.. ! hugs kimmers

well, i luv barns and so had to play with this one. i'm in a pastel mood tonight. here's what i would do. i used the hue map to change things a bit.
could go darker if you're more in the mood for dark... edit: wanted to play more...try to bring out the shadows...hard for my eyes to stay open though. :(

Kim, I like what u did with it! Looks like An old painting! :) Sheila, those pinky tones in the sky are beautiful! Gives the image a sunset feeling!
