Attached Link: ::::::::::::::::::HIGH RESOLUTION IMAGE HERE:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
For bigger resolution of the image above click the linkThis mini tutorial show exact the work of a ::specular::
light that can be created using just light, we forgot about that we can use specular maps not only for figures and props but also for the lights!
Above trick is most funny and with many variations, it don't affect your IBL AO or anything else..you can control it as you wish and put just where you wish..( the specular effect)
I used here one of my favorite light from my last light sets I created :: Light Outside:: this is sort of velvet effect light on your surfaces but a nice example to show how it works together with specular.
One thing about IBL AO is that you can use displacement and bump maps oh a higher values as normal you did.. it will never again create bad dark shadows on the model as it did.
I created my new lights sets to create the soft Diffuse effect as the photographer try to create in the studio but
because some of our users want the secular effect I decided
to create this mini tutor for you.
Have fun and I hope you like this one tip as well.
My English is not perfect because I found already bad grama again in my mini tutor but I think good image say more that 1000 perfect words.. I am not a writer I am Artist :P
I learn my stuff using my eyes and 10000 selection renders per day and I never follow tutorials lol
Hugs!Cath

NETWORK RENDERING...an absolute must!! neftis, Yes, I know, she is amazing, and I hear you are as well... There are a few SuperPosers around, now if I could only keep track of my own AO, IBL and speculars, I'd be one happy LDRI...lol. :)

Cath - nice tutorial. You can complete the loop by using HDRShop and Stewers poor-mans HDR to convert the IBL map into 5-10 infinite (specular only) lights - so you get a good match between ambient and specular. I played around with the system you've outlined a while back, but disbanded it because I thought at the time there there was a slight weakness getting good shadows. For far-away shots (I think I saw someone in the snow in one of your msgs) it's great, but when you get close-up (say a portrait), because you are relying totally on IBL AO for shadowing, things like eyes cavities get unrealistically shadowed.

Hi thanks the server is back Online and the image above working again. Face_off I don't made any tutorial for Portrait Light yet so if you like the :man in snow effect: my tutorial about was a success I don't understand where you try to go with this comments? as an Hyper surface specialist you have to know about that rendering close up Models you have to reduce the Ambient Occlusion to get the effect as expected using the base LDRI of the IBL. True HDRI include all the information you need for the IBL but poser support only LDRI so with little tricks you can get what you wish. I like very much my idea for the specular light btw I have better and faster control over the specular light via the Pose Room in place to switch everytime to Material Room. As you see in post number 3, the light I created include information that also affect the displacement and bump maps so it is fine and the ball is already so small model and render in a nice way. The quality after rendering is most important not the 1000 words that 50% of the user don't understand. I will try to make next time something more for the close up Portrait shots but for now I am little busy with the scenes..but it is great opportunity for you to make some Portrait lights tutorial , it will works amazing with your shaders I guess.. from what I saw I think well... and you don't need here my advice for........ :P Hugs! PBM - I don't really want to steal Caths thread.... but the attached link (and the 2 gallery posts before that) use 6-7 infinite lights (from Stewers HDRI script), plus a filler IBL. Then turn on ray-traced shadows (blur 20, bias 0.3?) for the brightest 2 or 3 lights. You can use AO nodes attached to her skin (where needed - definitely on her Nostrils and Teeth) to get the lovely fine shadowing.Creator of PoserPhysics

Face _off if you don't want to steal my thread then don't do this. You wrote under your image : I'm finding the best results are coming from doing away with IBL and light based AO. You Know? There is nothing better in 3D technology yet as creating light using IBL and AO, the most realistic scenery used by the really BIG one, and we are not talking here about portraits. Curious Labs ( E Frontier) was really happy with my little HDRI LDRI Mec4D StudioLight Renders and the effects I created using Poser6 and choice the images also for the official CL Gallery. I am working also on a new tutorial for them right now too... so Poser6 starter can learn something from too. I sold in last week 496 times my New IBL AO StudioLights and no one customer was unhappy with the product. Stewers HDRI script is knowing already too by many users...but there are always poser users that love to click and get a nice effect in place to spend hours on something they don't know or don't have the time for learn. If your post here in my thread is anty advertising for my IBL and AO and the little help I offer for the users then I don't see any reason to speak with you anymore on this theme now or in the future, and if you search for advertising for your own products then please post your own threads and share your ideas with others not only via Marketplace..... Now you can really hate me but I have to tell you what I have on my heart hopping you stay away from my post now and in the future. Regards Cath

This thread was created to help with the Specular effect and IBL AO and I did my job for free here to help not only the customers but the rest of the community a knowing specualr solution not from today but I just put it here as a visual version so users can understand it better. Poser is my passion and I always try to share and help if I can for many years here... nobody was speaking about advertising because I don't need any advertising in this forum for anything ... I did this for the users and I am for plan to do this in the future even more because of the wonderful support by the customers and poser users. Your post number 34 prove only that I was right again. You are not my friend and I don't know you so pelase let me alone in peace. Thank you

Ditto hilljf's comments. Thank you Cath for your tools & continuing to graciously share your vast & hard earned experience & true love of Poser. Thank you face_off for your wonderful shader scripts & insights, that add to the realism palette for us. You both are truly talented individuals. I look forward to supporting all positive efforts to give us a deeper understanding into the tools we are blessed with.
