What is considered the best software compatible with Poser 4 for developing 3D interiors such as living rooms and offices?

Most of that would involve building the rooms and furniture in a modeling program such as Rhino and 3dsMax, but as they're a little costly, you might consider several free alternatives like Wings3d or anim8tor. Go to the Wings forum here and click on the banner at the top and it will take you to where you get the free program. Then the people in the forum will be able to help you get started.

That's completely subjective of course (depends on who you ask), but 3dsMax/3dsVIZ have always been widely used in professional architectural modeling, and both can output to Poser-compatible file formats (.obj).

So, I'd say if you wanted "the best", then that's probably it.

I use Sierra Home Architect 4.0. Don't know if it is still available. I was fairly inexpensive. $20.00 or so. It makes great environments but cann't not locate the plug-in to inport BVH files from Poser. Don't remember the name of the plug-in. I looked at a program called Punch, which is also an architectual program but it was not as good as the one from Sierra.

Carrara from Eovia is a very good program that's not to costly. It has Poser plug in that can hadle P5.

And Eovia has a new vertex modeler called Hexagon, it's download only right now and I'm pretty happy with it. I've been using Carrara for years and am really happy with it. There's a plug in for it (It's extra and if you buy the Carrara Pro version you'll get a discount on it when you order) called ArchiTools that enables you to construct a house, interior or exterior, create holes for windows and doors and place the preset doors/windows or you can create custom doors/windows. Pretty darn cool. The Carrara Plug-In, Transposer 2, doesn't quite work and play well with Poser 6, there's a supposed bug fix in the works, but no idea when it may be out. Probably when the Poser 6 SR 1 gets released... Carrara can export OBJ files, and I've had pretty good luck using them in Poser 6 (and earlier versions). As good as firefly is, Carrara's renderer is the easiest to set up and use, not to metion pretty darn fast, even on my 733MHZ Mac.

Theres also a programe called sketchup which is for archtectural moddeling. I've been having a go with it and it seems very intuitive to me. There are some good examples of what can be done with it on their site.

 

Yes you can export 2d and 3d exf however you don't get textures. Usually I render my scene in Home Arch then save as bmp and place poser char with Photoshop. Maybe with some knowledge of textures I could make it work in Poser.
