Head is somewhat inspired by robots from "robota" movie, everything else was done without any plan whatsoever, lol, hopefuly it matches with the head, did it today, since I did not work, modeling time around 6-7 hours...

What do ya ppl think ? :D

Any ideas or suggestions appreciated, thanks ! :D

Most excellent work here! what app did you used to model it? That shiny and smooth bumped texture is just perfect! Great Job... The only thing I gotta do now is increase some more my skill level.. Thanx for the challenge! ;-p

Aye, it is great! Silo? Think you'll end up rigging it for animation or posing? I really like the head, but the body is also quite nice. Good work, as always!

Lucca posted Mon, 23 May 2005 at 11:48 AM

Wow! You did that in Bryce?

Kemal posted Mon, 23 May 2005 at 11:50 AM

Went to bed after I posted this last nite, sorry for a late reply, I was too sleepy ! :D

Thanks for a nice words, ya all, I realy have no idea how to rig it, it will be for free, but polys need to be optimized a bit, now it has 230000 and that is bit high, i have a great tutorial for riging it in Poser, but I have to go through it and see...will be available today as a mesh only, just have to upload it later !!! :D All modeling done in SILO, only rendered in Bryce ! :)

Now it has bit more detail and down to 80000 polys (will be twice as that in Bryce becouse of import triangulation)

Here is the link (3.7 Mb download):

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD ! :)

Ther is no restrictions of any kind on this mesh (except claiming ownership, ofcourse), everything else IS alowed, including distribution, editing, poserizing (if anybody is willing to do any of those), etc ! ;o)

Cheers ! :D

Erlik posted Mon, 23 May 2005 at 3:06 PM

Um, I don't know if it's me, but Bryce doesn't triangulate by itself.

-- erlik

Kemal posted Mon, 23 May 2005 at 3:59 PM

Dunno, it seams that mine always does (on import), cuz all my models end up twice as big (polycount wise), this one had like 80000 quads, and polycount in Bryce is 160000 or something...!?!

Kemal posted Mon, 23 May 2005 at 4:02 PM

It does not do it on 3DS files which are, to my knowing, all triangles, by nature... :)

Erlik posted Mon, 23 May 2005 at 4:36 PM

Hm. weird. I just imported a LWO file and the only triangles were where Rhino put them. The rest were quads. Do you have an option selected in Silo, to triangulate on export?

-- erlik

Erlik posted Mon, 23 May 2005 at 4:50 PM

Even weirder. I imported the robot into Cinema and Bryce and both show the same shapes for polygons, but Bryce does have 168 thousands as opposed to 84 thou in Cinema.

Very nicely done Kemal!

MoonGoat posted Mon, 23 May 2005 at 6:32 PM

Brilliant model!

Kemal posted Mon, 23 May 2005 at 6:46 PM

Thank you guys ! :D @ Erlik, just researched the web, most of the rendering engines (including realtime ones) render triangles only, so they do their triangulation during render time (prman rendering package can render quads, for example, but it looks like its a rare thing), it seams that Bryce does it right away to save on render time later, can you imagine if it does it during render, lol, it would be even slower then it is !!! :D

johnyf posted Mon, 23 May 2005 at 6:59 PM

Many thanks Kemal...Great model!

TwistedBolt posted Tue, 24 May 2005 at 1:22 AM

Hey kemal, is there any way I can get that model unsmoothed in .obj format? In the wireframe pic he looks to come in under 5000 polys that way.
