"avilable. Subscriptions are ready and working and we have 49 downloads avaikable" and the correct spelling of avoluble is actually avaluable, hee hee. (Sorry, I used to work as a newspaper editor, it's in my blood to notice the spelling mistakes.)

avoluble?...avaluable? do you mean 'available' Helgard? Dodger..good luck with the new store!..it looks to be well stocked with goodies. "10.000 songs"..do we get to pick our own songs? ;) Cheers Stefan

No, Stefan, I meant aviabale!!! Gee, I am not even English and I have to teach you people to spell, lol. (avoluble?...avaluable? <---- that was meant as a joke. Sorry, my sense of humour has been missing since the 3rd of July 1985. If found, beat it severely and then return it to me) Mr X, any way to see what the freebies are without signing up? Or are they a secret suprise. I couldn't see them when I clicked on freestuff, just gave me an error.

Okay, that free momnth's subscription... the way it's presented here it sounds like you get a month free, no strings attached. But I suspect that what is meant is, if you subscribe for a month, you get a second month free. Is that correct? "Fora"? No, hardly, lol. Use "Forums" instead, it looks wayyy corny like that. Apart from anything else, the correct latin plural form of forum is fori, not fora. :] Piscis

"Fori" would be the Latin plural of "forus", wouldn't it? As I recall, the plural for "-um" words is "-a":
1 datum -> many data
1 stratum -> many strata
1 medium -> many media
1 forum -> many fora
Makes sense to me. :-)
Helgard posted Wed, 25 May 2005 at 5:21 PM
forum ( P ) Pronunciation Key (fm, fr-) n. pl. forums, also fora (f, fr) That's what my dictionary says.

"But I suspect that what is meant is, if you subscribe for a month, you get a second month free. Is that correct?" That is correct. I tried to join but it never sent me the confirmati"on/validation e-mail." Please use the support/issue link on the right of the page, as described above. And yup, Fora is the correct plural of 'forum'. '-um' becomes 'a' usually, and '-us' becomes 'i'. As Salvius noted, 'datum => data', 'medium => media', 'Belgium => Belgia'. But it's easy to be thrown off by conundra of this sort. :)

hahaha......that "avaluable" comment is priceless. ;)
FishNose posted Thu, 26 May 2005 at 5:42 AM
Nope. I checked the word 'forum' in Cassells Latin Dictionary. Plural was most definitely 'fori'. (I studied Latin for five years) However, the English word 'forum' has the preferred plural form 'forums', with 'fora' as a possible and little known alternative. Comparing to 'datum' and 'medium' is pointless. 'Datum' didn't even exist in Latin. Neither of their popular plural forms have anything to do with Latin origins and each such word as used in modern English should be considered on its own merits or lack of them. No general rules apply, due to differing etymological origins and the virtually arbitrary construction of modern English. As we all know, English uses a set of basic (fairly useless) rules to which most words/terms/forms can be considered exceptions ;o) Well, anyway.... My main point was that a very large number of people who come to your site will have no idea what 'fora' is, so I suggest the use to 'forums' to communicate better. Besides, about 90% of the world's population does not have English as mother tongue and won't have a clue what a fora is. Oh, and speaking of conundrums (the correct - and only - plural form according to Webster's, lol): - Why didn't the children of Israel starve in the desert? - Because of all the sand which is there. This is in fact Webster's own illustrative example of a conundrum! Salvius: Both the Latin words 'forus' and 'forum' have 'fori' in plural form. :] Fish

I just had a long look through the stuff that's already there for subscribers, and it's a pretty impressive collection. If you haven't had a look, I urge you to go and do so, because it's well worth the subscription price, IMHO. And Dodger isn't paying me to say that, either (nor did he suggest I post; it was entirely on my own initiative). bonni

I don't have the Aeon figures so I don't see any sense of trying a subscription that will be putting out a lot of models for figures I don't have. Or am I mistaken about what the content will be. I looked but could not find anything on the site that would tell me about future content. "Former users of 3-DArena are already in the system" Yes, I am there but - why? Is this now a new 3-DArena - did I possibly miss an email notification somewhere telling me of this new site and name change? I probably would have joined your place eventually anyway, and I sure did help myself to a free goodie there - thank you. :-) BUT for myself, and anything I join in the future, I would like to know if it is common practice for sites to share data bases. Or is it, for example like Daz and Poser Pro's, owned by the same people?

Sorry. My original post and point, although made with an attempt at humour, was meant to help the site by pointing out two spelling mistakes on their front page. Someone else pointed out another spelling mistake. Someone else also tried to help by pointing out that using fora as the plural of forum was a bad idea, as most people would not know what this meant. (Has anybody EVER done a survey to see what percentage of Renderosity users are not native English speakers?) This pointing out of mistakes are not meant as criticism of the site, but as in helping to make the site better, more proffesional. The spelling mistakes are still there, the question asked (that I couldn't see the freebies, because I got an error) has not been addressed. So, while it may seem as though we have strayed from the original point, any thread with lots of posts stays on the front page longer, has a longer lifespan, and means more vistors to the site it is advertising. (PS. If anyone ever finds spelling mistakes on my site, feel free to let me know. I won't complain about someone trying to help)

When LadySilvermage shut down 3-D Arena, Dodger offered to take over the forums and RFI, to give it a "home". It seems to have evolved into what it is now. If anyone is unhappy about this, I'm sure Dodger or one of the other admins would be happy to delete the existing account. :-) I can't say what future content will be. I don't know entirely what Dodger has up his sleeve in that regard. There are also a lot of items that are NOT for any of the AEON characters, just for the record. I mean, if there's nothing there that strikes you as useful, that's fair enough, but while I expect continued support of the AEON characters, I don't think that's going to dominate the site (nor do I think they do now). bonni

"why? Is this now a new 3-DArena - did I possibly miss an email notification somewhere telling me of this new site and name change? " As Bonni said, the memberships transferred over because the fora themselves transferred over, and they wouldn't work without them (heaps of messages posted by 'Unknown' or broken links galore, if it even ran right -- can anyone who knows web stuff imagine trying to get a PHPBB forum to work without the users who posted in the system?) But yes, we'll be happy to remove anyone who would rather not have an account there.

The subscription page doesn't say what a subscription includes. It only gives prices. Is this like PoserWorld where once you subscribe, you can download anything on the site? If so, it would help to make that clear... especially for people not used to how subscription sites generally work. Just a suggestion.
