I would have added a even broader white frame around it , with just a 1 pixel wide black boarder around the photo itself...just my suggestion though #:O)

Wow Shelia that's a great shot. What was he doing, playing hide & seek? Love that expression! and is that a ball? Sorry can't offer you much advice as you know I'm learning postwork myself. I don't mind the frame but since the photo isn't that high I'd be inclined to put a wider one on it like Andreas suggested. I'll go check out your other thread now ... Noeline

Thanks a bunch, guys!!!!!! i'll try a thicker frame! Noeline, he saw me takin' pictures of him and was just being silly! another question...i wanna put this one in my gallery. do ya'all think it would look better if i cropped it even more...like i did in my thumb? kemal said he loves it just the way it is. i'm not so sure. that globe doesn't do a lot for me...whatcha think?
randyrives posted Fri, 27 May 2005 at 11:46 AM
Very nice!! Ranks as one of my favs of your photos. For the gallery leave the crop as is. Of course crops are personal, so you will most likely give different opinions. Again nice job.

Terrific CANDID shot here Sheila! His expression is PRICELESS! The contrasting tones work well here too(IMO)!
tvernuccio posted Fri, 27 May 2005 at 1:48 PM
Randy, thanks so much for your input! Glad you liked it! I decided to keep it the way it is for now and put it in my gallery like that. I'm hoping to get feedback from people who comment there as well. Kevin, you're more than welcome to play with my images here, and i appreciate you doing so!!!! I was kinda thinkin' the same way...that having all of the globe doesn't really add a whole lot; however, taking some away does seem to make us focus on the kid more. i'm thinking about entering this image in a contest and that's why i want so much feedback on it...another reason i put it the way i did in my gallery...to see what others think. Your crop is much better than mine. Mine (the thumb) is way too tight. yes, he is what i love about this picture...and so far, i like your version the best. kemal says he still likes the image in #4 the best. and randy says that too. i'm curious what other feedback i'll get here and in my gallery. thanks again guys!!!!!!!

I'm glad I didn't offend you. I'm not a newbie at 'Rosity but I am new to this gallery and don't want to step out of line. Ya'll have a very nice, warm group here and I'm enjoying watching this particular group of friends (it sure looks that way to me - that ya'll are a pretty close group of friends) interact and grow together. Good luck with the contest!

Sheila, coming from one who only crops,DON"T DO IT!Yes,Bobasaur's crop puts more focus on him, but for me it throws the balance off.I like it exactly as you have it in the gallery. The balance is beautiful. Please don't change it....Love this pic!!!!!!

mmm I would have been inclined to crop it like Bobasaur did too but now that I can see the two of them and compare I think the way you had it originally in #4 is better. I think there's a bit more mystery there as to what is the kid doing and what is that round thing!! Just my thoughts ... it's up to you though, lol. Guess I'd better check out your gallery and see what you did about the frame ... Noeline

Thanks so much guys for your input!!!! so far, the responses in my gallery have been to leave it the way it is. since composition is something i'm so weak on, i'm trusting you guys! i'm really surprised...thought for sure everyone would say to crop it. Marlene, you were talking about balance. do you mean how the dark part on the right balances the white part on the left? well, guess i'll enter it in the contest like in #4 kevin...i still love your crop a LOT...but every has said to leave it the way i did so...i'm gonna enter this one the way i did originally. still might have to print this one the way you've cropped it though! thanks a bunch guys!!!

Exactly Sheila.Compositionally its perfect.I've never studied graphic design but I know there are certain principles of good design that are based on specific patterns,if you will. One is the law of three. If you already know what that is I apologise. If you want an example of that Gerhard is very good at it.Let me see if i can reference one.Okay, look at 'Fielded'.(Don't know how to link, and even if I could I'm not sure I'm allowed to.If it's alright with Gerhard maybe it could be posted here.I'll ask him but I don't know if he'll respond fast enough to be relevant.)Again,I apologise if you already know what that is.And I'll be so embarrassed if I'm saying it or using it wrong! But I told you I have no formal training...LOL.Anyway,yours is kind of like a percent sign, design wise.A diagonal with two distinct sides, usually polar, with a similar shape or element in each half.Gosh,I'm rambling on.I must sound like an idiot.Never mind me.I'm in a strange mood today,LOL!HUGE HUGZ!Ps-when does the next simon says start?

Don't feel bad - art is subjective! It's your image, and I'm enjoying reading the thoughts of others as well. I'm learning, too.

Marlene, I only have a minute...running to work...i will see if i can find that image of Gerhard's that you mentioned tonight after work. I've never studied design so please tell me more!!!!! you...sound like an idiot????? are you NUTS????? no way! you explain things in a way that makes sense to me. that helps a lot!!! keep tellin' me more...and always tell me more about how i can improve compositionally. it doesn't hurt my feelings...helps me improve! if i've done something right here, yippee for me! LOL! what you said makes sense. just when i'm takin' pics...i don't in those terms. i'm just FEELING!!!! i need to think more i think!!! LOL! HUGE HUGGGZZZ back at you!!!!!! i think i should post simon uh...Sunday...hmmm...would that be after i get home from work tonight? i think so. oh boy...i'd better think about that. thanks again, Marlene...i'll look tonight! Kevin...it's interesting to hear everyone's thoughts, isn't it! later guys!

And I'm late again on this one! Geez!! Ok, my 8 pennies, and I'll go against everyone elses's opinion here, But I definitely prefer Kevin's crop! It looks so stylish! That black bit on the right side of the image bothers me a 'lil and does look unbalanced to me too! But, as u know, it's all just a matter of taste and I do love that pic anyhow, as u already know! I think this shot is a stunner and deserves to win! Yep! :) Good luck with the competition Sheila!

no biggie, Marlene. please don't keep your mouth shut!!!!! i like to hear you talk! i've looked and looked at that image. i feel stupid 'cause i don't understand. can you explain why this is a perfect example? i try to visualize a grid over top of this. having a hard time. is it because of the three different levels of terrain, along with placement of the tree? thanks!!! :)
