Poser locks up on what I would call simple scenes on XP pro. If I don't pre-save all my work I lose it of course, but why is Poser 6 so unstable for me. I've had problems with my library locking up to where I couldn't change between catagorys. I have a 2000+ athlon processer, 712 megs of ram, a 256 xtasy graphics board(ATI). I set my virtual memory high so I have plenty of that. Scene for example is Aiko 3 on a mil horse holding a staff. Two characters and no background. I realize most peoples post work is done in a paint program, but come on. How much should we have to do?

First thing to do is check for the latest updates on your Video card - even if it's new! Vid cards rarely have the latest when they first install. If that doesn't help, Hmm... how much poser stuff do you have, and is it all in the main Poser directory or do you have more than one runtime? If the Poser directory gets too full it could possible be slowing things down. What settings are you using for Firefly? I can't tell you which ones, but someone else can probably advise you that certain settings can cause problems. Have you tried rendering with the Poser4 Render Engine? It can be just as good as Firefly for simple scenes, and faster, less chance of locking up.

Also, keep in mind 712 megs of RAM is really nothing. We have people here crashing Poser with 1-2gigs(some with more)of ram.

Have you installed poser sr-1 from e-frontier??

You might as well PAY attention, because you can't afford FREE speech

Possible reason for the lock up while rendering if that is the problem I have found is a corrupted prop and texture map. To diagnose if this is the problem is to load each chartacter one at a time and the render it each time. I found this has helped me diagnose similar situations as to why Poser locks up while rendering.

If you experiencing this as a persistant problem you may need to ditch your excisting runtime library and re-install each item one at a time.

How many textures does your scene have and how big are they (in pixels, not kB)?
