Alan Alda? Sorry, Redders, couldn't resist. I have absolutely no idea on either count.

Argh! SamTherapy, you're not helping my ego here! ;-) Being from Great Britain, you should have the home advantage to the second question. Psst! That's another hint, gang! Think, "England"! And, no, it doesn't relate to "Doctor Who" despite my near obsession with the program. Sincerely, Bill

Redfern posted Sun, 05 June 2005 at 5:58 PM
Yep, dlk30341, it's Capsces' "Kioki" package! Her morph sets are so damned powerful, I rarely use the "standard" figures anymore.
Okay, let's concentrate on the second question. Consider the clues: Victoria and England.
Sincerely,
Bill

I think there may be some confusion here. The face is not meant to be a parody of a celebrity. It's supposed to be a faithful interpretation of a creature that is quite literally not human. Sincerely, Bill

Martian from the H G Wells book "War of the Worlds"? Susan
Redfern posted Sun, 05 June 2005 at 6:46 PM
DING!!! DING!!! DING!!! Ttiana is the winner!!!
Yes, that is supposed to be a "Wellsian" Martian described by the nameless narrator. A "body" the size of a bear, skin glistening like wet leather, saucer shaped black eyes, a "V" shaped, lipless mouth that quivers and drools.
the hardest part was getting rid of the nose. Ironically, Capsces didn't have a "no nose" morph, so I had to tweak what was available.
I can "fake" the whip-like tentacles by using one of the numerous ERC controlled items and perform a little postwork. The trick will be trying to include all 16 as described in Wells' novel.
With Speilberg's version hitting the theaters this month, plus two (yes, 2!) live-action editions going straight to DVD around the same time (one being a more faithful period drama set at the turn of the century), I'm in a "Martian mood". I thought I'd try to recreate H.G.'s "reports".
Now that it's been revealed, what are your assessments?
sincerely,
Bill

Bill, you wouldn't believe me if I told you that I got it immediately, but there you go; I did. :) Well, that is to say, I knew what you were trying to represent but I got the source model wrong; I was thinking of the Cubed baby, for some reasom. In truth, I think you've done a pretty damn good job.

"War of the Worlds" was written in Victorian England?
Redfern posted Sun, 05 June 2005 at 7:28 PM
As in the phrase "Victorian England", signifying the years the Queen Victoria ruled England. Of course, my knowledge of British history is a tad weak. Whom of the Royal Family sat upon the throne in 1897, the year when Wells published his novel in Pearson's Magazine? Sincerely, Bill

Redfern posted Sun, 05 June 2005 at 8:03 PM
Oh, Dialyn, I wasn't directing my statements at you. I really don't know who was on the throne in 1897. I think Victoria was already buried by then. It may be more accurately be referred to as the Edwardian Era. Shoot, I can't even remember most of the American presidents, let alone other political powers. Anyway, thanks for the compliments. It's a simple Poser 4 rendering with one "fill" light without shadows and another with shadows enabled projected from below. I used the hag texture from the V3 zombie/hag set and bumped up the specularity to produce a wt effect. For the eyes I simply applied a black abse color to the cornea and eye-white. I used Aiko with the Kioki morphs because she already has large eyes. I suspected I could scale them larger with less trouble than Victoria 3 (who has yet to be be "blessed" by Capsces). I turned the rest of the body parts "off" so they wouldn't show. Here's a bit of trivia. O'Bannon and H.R. Giger were not the first to depict an "inner mouth" on a space alien. Wells' Martians were outright vampiric! They possessed a "pipette" they extruded from their mouths and pierced the arteries of human victims. They drained blood and pumped it directly into their own circulatory systems. Why? They did not possess a digestive system of their own. As the Martians mutated into essentially brains with tentacles, various Parts of their bodies atrophied over the eons. The Martians normally drained a fellow species as a matter of survival. Wells set the standard in so many areas! Sincerely, Bill

Queen Victoria (1819-1901) The Time Machine = 1895 War of the Worlds = 1898 nice work on the "head" there Bill.. very nice work indeed. hope you can get the Tentecles right.. 5 per side wasn't it?
Redfern posted Sun, 05 June 2005 at 8:29 PM
Thanks, Khai! So I was right to call it the "Victorian era", I guess. I wasn't sure and I feared I was making an ass of myself. Actually, it was 8 per side for a total of 16. I guess Wells wanted his Martians twice as creepy as an octopus. ;-) Does anyone care to obtain the .FC2 "face" file to recreate this nightmare? The only caveat is that one must own Kioki for Aiko for it to work. Sincerely, Bill

Nice rendering - I haven't read the book for ages; I might have another look at it now.
Khai's absolutely right on those dates - technically, though, the Victorian era began in 1837 when she came to the throne.

The ski, Momodot? As first stated in entry # 27, I used the "Hag" texture supplied in the "V3 Morph Expansion Pack 1" available at DAZ. It can be found at the supplied link. The irony is that I bought it to help me recreate Davros from "Doctor Who" (using yet another Capsces' product, "Boris for Michael") only for it to later become a freebie incentive when one renewed one's Platinum Club membership. 8-/ Sincerely, BillTempt the Hand of Fate and it'll give you the "finger"!

My guess was Whoopie Goldberg after chemo and a trip to the optometrist for pupil dilation. But then I realized those were indisputably Martian lips. So i'd figured Whoopie got some Martian lip replacements. Then I remembered that Martian lip replacement hasn't been in style since the turn of the 20th century. So I concluded that it must instead be the Wellsian WotW Martian. But by then, it was too late. Damn. I was craving that envy. Alas.
