Once again, I want to buy something at DAZ and am left seriously wondering what to do given those unenlightening promo pictures and sales copy they use. I think Morph Designer 2.0 might be a seriously good application for me to do what I used to do with great effort in Amorphium, sculpt pre-existing figures for my own use. I am completely unable to use Wings or any such vertice pusher being just a dumb old oil painter. I do use magnets a lot but when my work space becomes utterly cluttered with magnets it makes me nuts!!! And it is hard to work in stages since the magnets influence each other once you realy get going... Why can't Poser magnets be a sigle prop with three parts rather than three seperate props! I don't think the "magnet analagy" even real works with these things --couldn't figure them out before reading Traveler's tutorial that suggested you just toss the whole analagy and treate the magnet only as a handle for what is in the magnet zone. I even substituted a plain ball for the magnet prop so it wouldn't distract me and clutter up the screen... usually I just turn off the visibility all together... but going through that prop list is miserable for me. I was very disillusioned to find after I bought Poser 5 that "Morph Putty" didn't actually move mesh directly but was a round about way of spinning morph dials, ugh! So I realy am thinking of all the "morph makers" some of which like Morph Master I have tried trials of, and others that seem to use graphics cards and won't run on my sytem, that this might be the answer. But... at Daz they don't show the actual manipulation tools for playing with stuff once you have made a "soft selection". Are there rotation options as well as translation? Are their "bulge" and "smooth"? How do these magnets compare in use to the Poser magnets? Does any one have any experience with Morph Designer 2.0 that they can share with me? Thanks.

Momodot,

Pardon my intrusion as I haven't tried Morph Designer. I thought you might be interested in a new product called Hexagon, by Eovia, for making morph targets (and alot more). Hexagon is supposed to "play well" with Poser. One of the beta testers was a Poser content creator (including figure morphs), and he had great things to say about it. I haven't tried it for making morph targets, but it does load poser exports in native units, and you can actually see and use the imported figures (just bought it last Friday). I have tested it for making clothing/props for Poser, and I'm very happy with the results.

You can download a free 30 day, uncrippled version from the web site to give it a test run. Unfortunately the new release special is off, but there is still a discount available until June 30th.

I've tried amorphium, and although it is supposed to be easy to use, I found it hard to control, and not very intuitive. I've tried wings a couple of times, but it never felt right. The only software I ever felt really comfortable with is Cinema 4D, but upgrading to the current version, which has some tools I really would like, is beyond the resouces in my pocketbook.

Hexagon has almost everything I like in the modeling found in C4D (9x), but can't afford. I was able to start using Hexagon right after installing it. I'm working through the pdf manual right now (which has imbeded video clips - great stuff). Even though I could do basic stuff immediately, there are some real time savers that make reading the manual a big plus. It's also fun to use (not something I thought I would ever say about a 3d modeling program).

Good luck in your quest to find useable software to make morph targets Poser!

I am now downloading the Hexigon Trial. 6.2Kb/sec! I have never topped 3.0Kb/sec on my dial up to date! 1.5 hours to go, not bad for me. I looks great but far to expensive for me. Here I am tormented with the $39 purchase from DAZ. I had to spend weeks justifying to myself into the $149 for Poser 6. I'll be curious to see if I can make sense of it though. I have built some pretty complex stuff with poser primatives but I have never been able to make ANYTHING in any other modeling program. I bought Metaforms because I am desperate to make things out of primatives and have the joins flow smooth but the DAZ promo were so small they did not show the INSURMOUNTABLE edge artifact Metaforms has on every object. I have not used it since the first week despite considerate assistance from the Metaforms tech. They said basically it was an inherent defect, I just with Daz or Metaforms had been good enough to repro an image with a form taller than 90 pixels! i just have not found a modler having probably tried a dozen and bought several, that I can wrap my concrete filled head around. But back to Morph Manager, I am looking for an alternative to magnets and the putty tool for making characters but for less than say $49. I do appreciate the tip to Hexagon, I can't wait to try it though unless they do a deep price cut I don't see getting it real soon. I don't begrudge any of these developers their asking prices, it is a wonder when anyone can make functioning software or support a buisness selling it... it is simply a matter of my limited means and pitiful discretionary budget :)

Oh, if someone has used Morph Designer please check in here or email me about it if you could.

Good luck with hexagon. The short video clips in the documentation are great. It may not be your cup of tea, but with the free trial, it's worth a shot.

I just tried Hexagon without yet checking the instructionals and it does have a lovely interface and seems more intuitive than any I have tried in the past. As for cost... wish list. Still I hope to hear from a Morph Designer user.
