Mac Tiger OS User needs Poser tech help I was contacted by a Mac user who is using the Tiger OS. He is new to Poser and is concerned that macConverter isn't compliant under his OS. I am on PC so am clueless. Any Mac/Tiger/Poser advice/procedures/info is deeply appreciated so I can help him. Regards, Anton

1.Select the application and choose File > Get Info. 2.Select the "Open in the Classic environment" checkbox and close the Info window. 3. run application. This should run any older applications in Tiger OS in the Classic enviroment for applications that require OS 9 etc. The other thing is to contact the application maker for mac converter and as them, I didn't see any update since '03. However an email may help solve the problem. email question to : MartinC@soft-rabbit.com I have played in OS X, haven't had much use or time on Tiger OS yet so I really am not much more help. shrug

Selecting Open in Classic will only work if they have classic installed, a lot of people haven't.Firstly the question is what does he want to convert? With Poser 5 and 6 content, it is file compatible with the Windows version, so there's nothing to convert (although many readme files needlessly instruct mac users to do it)
As to very old content, designed for Poser 4 and before then yes the .rsr files need updating to .png and the OSX solution for that task is fmorgans MacCoverter. See Link.
The other file you may encounter is a .rte this needs decoding with RTEJava
http://www.geocities.co.m/RTEJava/alpha/index.html
Don't forget with Poser 6 you will need to unzip the .obj file before using this.
For general loading you files into your runtimes you can use OSX's ditto command or dittoGUI at

Hope this helps...

You can just copy (or transfer, if on the same drive) the .pz2 and .png files (Pose folder example) without running them through MacConverter (Poser 6 only). RSR files can go in the trash without a second thought. Same goes for other content. If still using Poser 4 or 5, MacConverter works fine in Classic. Another good reason to upgrade to Poser 6!

Actually, the rsr content holds the thumbnail so it can't be tossed necessarily. Maconvertor is still needed to convert older PC files for the thumbnails.

Seriously; I haven't used it (or Classic) for nearly two years now. There's a $5 proggie @ the link that will convert the old .rsr thumbnails to .png, which is the only thing you'd need the old MacConverter for P5/P6 files anyway. HTH, /PbyAnton posted Tue, 07 June 2005 at 1:52 PM
Thanks. I'll pass on the info to him.

Sorry, Pengy, but MacConverter also decodes encrypted files and cleans up a batch of other errors if it finds them. I still run everything through it. The DAZ installers decode for DAZ stuff, but a user who frequents any of the other marketplaces and freestuff sites will require a decoder sooner or later. Carolly

"Sorry, Pengy, but MacConverter also decodes encrypted files and cleans up a batch of other errors if it finds them." Could you be more specific, please. As I have been told that Poser 5/6 is fully file compatible. I have seen no encrypted or unclean files in the windows distributions.

I'm on Tiger here and saying that-- OS9 is long gone. If you are on Tiger (or even Panther) you should really move away from anything OS9 related. We've removed every app related to OS-9 long ago and have had no problems with our apps/Macs or the OS since that time. I use fmorgan's MacProBrowser 1.6.1 to install and manage all my runtime folders and it works beautifully. I went with it (as recommended on this site) because MAcConverter is/was not OS-X savvy. MacProBrowser 1.6.1 does all the rsr-png conversion automatically so no-more Mr Shruggy... Works for me.... regards

"The DAZ installers decode for DAZ stuff, but a user who frequents any of the other marketplaces and freestuff sites will require a decoder sooner or later." Eh? I grab stuff from nearly every freebie site and Poser store on the planet. Aside from the occasional missing .png's ni the packages (which the utility mentioned fixes), I have no probs at all in P5 or P6 on OSX. I don't need Classic for jack, and put the space it used to take to better use a long time ago (shrug.) BTW, what "encrypted" files are you referring to? /P

Stuff which requires Objaction Mover and the seed files... these are usually characters.

Ah, no problem - there's an Objaction Mover for OSX that's free (I have it, and it works fine - see link) /Pdrainey posted Thu, 09 June 2005 at 6:57 PM
