Honestly, I saw a screenshot for the upcoming XBox360 title "The Gears of War" and felt like finally emersing myself in the wings 3D knowledge I would need to modell it. So I did. The model is 90% wings, 10% Bryce, 100% in need of improvement. I'll definently be replacing those top pillars and adding more detail to the arch. Helpful tidbits, anyone? Looks very good! As your "friend" CloneX would say-"Lets see a wireframe".;-)

The model is 90% excellent, 10% great, and 100% in no need of improvment :)

Great model. I am not good at architecture so hats off to you. Textured and in a scene. You could just keep it a facade like in Macao there is the front of a church with no church it is in the spanish style it is a big tourist attraction there.

excellent! only critic I've got is you've oversmoothed the model a bit in bryce. It makes the sharper edges in the model less convincing. You could either take the smoothing angle down. Or, alternatively, if you need a higher smoothing angle fo other area's, you could camfer the sharp edges with a very tiny radius. That sometimes helps too.

Lookin good! Aside from what Rayraz said, you're on top of things! Keep us posted on your changes?

Aye, keep us posted! Also agree with Rayraz, darn Bryce auto-smooths everything. Would look better if sharp?

The trick with Wings is the 'harden' the edges that you don't want smoothed by Bryce. I've had mixed success with it. Looks like he's (she's) done the same..

Very nice Moongoat!!!.

shinyary2 posted Wed, 08 June 2005 at 4:36 PM

pakled (and possibly Moongoat)-- In case you don't know this already, there is a feature in Bryce under edit mesh where you can unsmooth the model so it looks the way it did in Wings. I'm sure you both already know about this, and pakled was talking about something else, but just in case...

MoonGoat posted Wed, 08 June 2005 at 6:52 PM

Thanks all! I'll look into this smoothing sorcery and get you a textured version and a wireframe.
