Zygote has released these figures free and are calling them open source. "Users will be able to create figures for both personal and commercial use and even create royalty free derivative products." Does anyone plan to, or have they already made a poseble cr2 from them? I would really like to work with them as Poser figures.

Keep an eye out at Poserforums.com, the SixusMedia forum. Dad is working on the boning, I think he's already done with the female. Here's a link for you, probably have to register if you're not already a member. Check out Sixus' models too, they have a male and female set and I believe they're working on another low-poly gal at the moment too. It's a page or two back in this forum, I think low-res or low-poly is in the title of the post. Check the Project Human category at poserforums.com.

Great question HandspanStudios.

What I've found doesn't look like a formal open project. At least I've not found a build tree to access, and try the latest build from.
I wanted to see the rigging evolve with each build. Though it a good way to learn.

Maybe I missed it. Still looking...

I don't think they mean open source in the classical way, they mean royalty free, that it can be modified and resold any way the artist wants to. If somebody makes it posebale I'd like to make morphs and textures for it. Looks like a really good figure. Ingrid From their forum: Q: If I use these figures as a base and create unique figures, can I sell them? I am thinking of using these models as a base to create my own so that I do not have to start from scratch... A: Yes, you can sell them. To clarify more, what you create using the open source materials, belongs to you and no one has the right to take what you have created and distribute it without your permission.

Just to clarify. The Project Human female is NOT the Zygote figures. We were apparently doing the same thing that Zygote was going to do, so we 'partnered-up' for the release. I am sorry if this has confused anyone. Anything under the name of Project Human is from the Sixus1 figures. Anything that has Zygote in the name is thiers. Okay, I may be wrong, but according to the 'offical' definition of Open Source, we do indeed fall under it. We didn't design our license after the GNU/GPL. We wanted to allow more freedom for distribution so we modelled our license after the BSD license. I am working on a few final changes to the license to make things a (hopefully) a bit clearer and to not cause any problems when people need to distribute through a third party. --Rebekah--

My mistake - my link above at CP is to the Sixus1 figures, not the Zygote ones.

Oh, that does help, I was indeed confused. Ingrid

Don't worry. It isn't just you who is confused. I've been doing this all day long for the past week :) --Rebekah--

Maybe it's time to give them all human names :-)

We didn't want to give them real names because we wanted the base materials to be generic so that people wouldn't feel pigeon-holed with their creativity. I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but that was the intent. :) --Rebekah--

I figured that was probably the idea. Names do allow an easy mental reference point, especially with multiple open source figures now available. Perhaps the confusion will clear after awhile. People (I'm guessing) are going to want to know which base things were derived from. Even something like PH-F would perhaps be a bit more easily identifiable.

"Maybe it's time to give them all human names :-)" Time indeed! there is; the "project make human" figures the "project human" figures the other zygote "project human" figures the "him" and "her" figures not to be confused with the "girl" figure any more?
