Hi, I am doing a short animation for my term project. Though I have been able to get the everything else right, the Kozaburo hair provided in P6 doesn't live up to the mark as the camera moves in for a close face shot. Which is the best hair money can buy? I don't mind getting an OBJ or any other format with textures included as I will be using 'em with a modified Jessi Figure I've made, so I will be changing 'em anyway. If there are any very high quality trans and tex maps for any existing hair which would do the trick, plz provide link. My Budget: < $75 Any strand based hair links also welcome. Thanks

Attached Link: Genesis Hair animation.

Genesis Hair for Jessie is the most realistic I have seen for animation. It plays well with light and doesn't look illustrated. I have never used it though. See link for a preview.

Yup, Genesis Hair for Jessi is free, so worth trying.

For transmapped hair, check out 3Dream. I think his stuff is generally considered the state of the art these days, for the high-res textures and extreme morphability.

I don't know what the P6 hair is like, but I still rate Koz's hair from his site the highest for realism.

I'm a fan of Spiral Curls by AprilYSH. The next time I think I need more hair to the collection, I'm going to check out that merchant's store first.

One thing to keep in mind especially for animation is that transmapped hair won't react realisticly to light changes - e.g. Koz' hair with painted highlights will show highlights even in the shadow. You can tweak a few things with shaders and bump maps, but essentially it's just painted polygon strips and not individual hair strands. Strand-based hair is a bit tougher to handle, but will react much more accurately to various lighting situations.

Yes, strand-based hair looks most real to me! Although transmap hair is good for still images, it looks terrible in animations. Unless it's a very short hairstyle, and the color map doesn't have painted on highlights, like stwer said above.
