Just a cool prototype case I'm working on. Spent a lot of time modeling it, and learned a lot of new stuff about Rhino! I'll probably give it a shot rendering it in Maya as well, but here's a quick render in Bryce to kind of get a feel for how I wanted it to look... Entire model took about three or four hours to model, and another two or three to texture and light it in Bryce. Any ideas? Tell me what you think! The link goes to the Rhino thread showing the model in it's earlier stages.

lol that's too cool :D

Different... I think it might be better if you swap out the third CD drive for extra USB ports and a multi-card reader. Also floppys are somewhat a relic now. (USB memory sticks are much more useful.) I'd think only one floppy would be enough.

Now if someone would make a retro deco-style computer case that evokes the styling of an old 1940's radio, I'd go for it... Perhaps with a nixie tube display showing the current processor temp. But that's just me I guess.

Awesome design.

Nice. What's the main yellow/orange lit up gadge monitoring? How would the case open? Lookout Alienware ;)

it looks like a dragon torched it and stepped on it. Many times. Sweet.

Nice. A bit too extreme for my taste, but nice. Although, if I may suggest, something with more flames and more neon would probably go better with gamers and modders.

Nice design, but looks like a bit of a heat trap, your cpu will fry in there!, how about a mouth on the front that has a 120 mil fan hole in amongst the teeth!.

(smiles) I love getting weird opinions on stuff like this! Case opens on the side, like any other. The cut is there, although my "manufacturing process" makes it visibly seamless... (grins) I built this case to MY specs, thus the four USB's, the high-speed CD as well as the CD-R and DVD-R players, and the two floppies. The floppies wouldn't be plugged in at all, but they are there to make people go, "WHY?", another feat of mind control. "Is he just stuck in the past, or is he just stupid?" (grins again) I would consider ramcard readers, if there were any standard whatsoever amongst them. As things stand, USB is much, much faster and more efficient for digital camera input. Also, the only reason that people use memory-cards and sticks is because they often don't have web access. In Seattle, that's not an issue. Nearly the entire state is a wi-fi hot spot now... Cooling? Well, since all of this is done internally, Gog, I can't imagine how your opinion makes any sense on it! But I understand where you're coming from, just that I live down the street from Koolance, so I guess I just take liquid-cooling as a given... I'll post a woodworked version here in a bit, after I get done with the rear modeling...!

Now Liquid cooling I can go with, made a setup for my neighbour using a mix of off the shelf bits from quiet PC and silent PC et al, I rendered a version of that case before making the cuts, based on an old HP server case nothing as complex (or as good looking) as you're going with here. I must get a photo of the final machine next time I lurk in my neighbours house so you can see how it turned out Slice above is from my office render ( linked :) )

Good stuff, Gog! I realy like the weird keyboard you've got there... Looking good.

Liquid cooling? mmm..,ok, so you fill up the case with a non-conducting liquid, illuminate and add goldfish?

It's not THAT complex, Bryster! Just a simple volumetric material, with the quality slider at 25, set to Basic Shading and with "receive shadows" turned off... (grins)

Goldfish are a separate, .obj import... Increase rendering time, as well!

Er LSD? That link just seems to go to the main Rhino forum, not a thread.

Nice case... where's the dragon then?

Are the red circled parts the remnants of the dragon, all that's left is its claws?

Poor thing if so, if not what ARE those bits? PS Found the thread, nice leather look case.

Those are claws. Spikes. Sweep1 in Rhino, to a point... They are set to a glass material in this one, and didn't render very well...

Oh so they ARE claws, right. ...um, so where's the fire come out of? gd&r
