I want to make a clothe in Lightwave 7 for to use in Poser 5 library as Clothe Conform. The only problem is: The Lightwave dont export the .obj file with group data. So, is useless make the .cr2 file. Somebody know this problem? Exists a plug in for solve this? The alternative is select parts of clothe in Group Editor of Poser 5 and transform it, but is a imprecise and tedious work!

As of version 7.5 Lightwave exports the body groups just fine. Select the vertices and go to View< create part. There is no need to split the vertices for your body parts, I never do in my clothing. If you go heavily into clothing I would recommend Greenbriar's cr2 loader plug-ins for LW I couldn't live without them.

A couple of other alternatives: UV Mapper Pro or Auto Group Editor.

Thanks, brothers!!! DominiqueB, I use the version 7 and dont found the path "View > Create Part". Maybe, just from version 7.5 can be possible the process. Your recommedation about the plug in is registered for my researches. Deecey, the Auto Group Editor seems dont play in Windows 98 - my old system...hahaha. I feel myself obliged to change. I go search about UV Mapper Pro.

Have you tried saving as a Lightwave5 file and importing that into Poser ?

DominiqueB, I also have Lightwave 7.5 and I can't find View > Create Part. I know about Display > Grouping > Change part name but my 7.5 doesn't have a View let alone a View > Create Part. Please, tell me where it's hidden as I'm still learning :)

Yes, Geodesic. This menu also exists in version 7. Dominique, the version 7 also have Display > Grouping > Change Part Name, Point Selection Sets and Surfaces to Parts. But, what the procedure?! To select a group (Point Mode) and...what the next step?

DominiqueB posted Mon, 20 June 2005 at 8:50 AM

Sorry if I confused you guys, I was going from memory. The correct path for 7.5 is Display Change Part Name ( I have been working with 8.0 for a while so I forgot where stuff was in 7.5).Change Part name is what you want. Simply select the polygon of the body part you want and hit Change Part name give it the EXACT same internal name as the Poser part (i.e. Left Shoulder is in reality lShldr for Poser) Do that for all body parts. Do not use Point selection sets, if you have any for any reason, you must get rid of them Poser does not like them. Once you have all your body groups and surfaces declared, and the uv mapping is done do not forget to assign the uv map to every surface in the surface editor. If you do not do that once loaded in Poser you will not able to assign any texture maps. Once all that is done export the obj. Import it into Poser it will be there with all it's body parts, then you can start conforming.

Nice explanation!! although I not to be able to test now due to problems in my operational system (I installed Win 2000 today), the communication have nexus. I believe that this process also functions in LW 7. Thanks very much, Dominique!!
