I've been going in circles, trying to pose Mike with a gun. The pose has him looking around the corner, gun drawn with both hands. i'm a posing newbie...I bought Poser 4 back in 2000 and I'm STILL having trouble with getting poses to work right. Ok, stop laughing. I mean it. Anyway...Getting the dang hands to do like I want is one thing...can I make Mike's hands go straight to the gun prop, as if his hands are magnetized to it? Then, with hands attached, is there a way to just move the prop gun, and his hands follow? That would be nice. I seem to recall a tut sometime ago, showing how to conform/parent??? Vicky's hands to a rope. Pull the rope, and she'd 'hang on' (used IK for that...I think) How is this done? And, does Poser 6 have anything to make something like this simpler to do?

I guess you could parent his hand to the gun. But it seems like it would make more sense to parent the gun to the hand so when you move the hand the gun goes with it.

The simplest way to go about it, in Poser 6, is to first place the figure in a gun-holding pose, then enable IK on the arms, then parent each hand to the gun. Doesn't seem to mess up the wrists quite as badly as in earlier versions, though it can still boggle the shoulder-joints if you move the gun too far. The problem with this approach is that the gun remains fixed in space, and can't move naturally with the figure. You have to keyframe its every motion. It's usually better, in my opinion, to instead parent the gun to the leading arm, enable IK on the off-arm, and then parent the off-hand to the gun. Then you can aim with the leading arm, and the off-hand will follow automatically.

Thanks! That should do the trick!

I always parent the gun to his chest, and set his arms to IK-on, and IK-parent his hands to the gun.

what if the gun is a figure and not a prop? Love esther

The same. IK-parent his hands to whatever part of the gun has its handgrips, not to its BODY.
