PapaBlueMarlin: well, hehe first this is not Elle...so I have different UVS.But I made it closer to v3..only minimal tweeking.But those questions about the model I cannot really answer in this forum.Only how I created the maps etc.I can answer those questions you have in the product showcase or devel forum. I hope you understand;) Thanks ernyoka1 :) did you know that you can even "animate" the tears with a simple uvs movie?I tried it once it worked..at least in that time LOL Would have to try it again.you can even animate your texture "uvs" to let's say a head morphing into a monster...etc. It would be super cool to try.

OMG Mychelle you captured it , you did, I never saw better expression as this, it looks like me yesterday ...lol Now I know what the hell you was going to do with Nikita when you buy it 2 days ago... now I see, and it looks fantastic Please keep the work done, transform Nikita to her and what you want.. it will be very cool for the users I think ... and regarding the tears, yes I used it too but animated, I did this for a Window glass when I made animation one time in Poser to see if this will be works.... how to do it faster? you can put a water on a clean glass, find a white wall and waiting for the sun, capture with your digital camera the shadows , then next convert the photo to negative and your new bump, specual and displacement maps is done, with a real rain on a glass... you can use also a spot light for that and make animated maps.... you will not believe you eyes as I when I see the render above, ......... keep doing your wonderful work my friend! Hi all! I was trying some new displacement maps for a crying scene I wanted to do this weekend.It turned out pretty good and I only wanted to share this picture with you. Displacements maps are great! I think I will try with blood and other stuff later on...it's worth the try. But for now this poor little lady needs some cheer up! What do you think??

You can fake every type of drops you want. You only need to use the same displacement as mask of a reflect and give a colour to it :)

These are probably the most convincing Poser tears I have seen (and I certainly have no better ideas), but they do still look a bit subcutaneous; i.e. they look as if they are below the skin, pushing it up, rather than rolling over the surface. Perhaps, they are simply too transparent. I realise that real tears are also transparent, but they also tend to be fast-moving, which causes them to catch the light in different ways as they fall.

You know what a bump-map is, right?
A displacement map is similar, but takes advantage of the Firefly renderer's improved abilities, and gives much more realistic grooves, bulges, etc on the mesh.
Find a model in your Runtime that uses a bump map. Go to the material room, disconnect the map from the "bump" channel and plug it into "displacement". You'll need to tick "Use displacement maps" in the Firefly render settings.
Experiment with a few different renders of your model, increasing and decreasing the displacement amount.
Tip - in Render Settings, ensure that "displacement bounds" is set to a higher amount than the setting you use in the materials room. This will avoid artifacts showing up in the render.

I'm still not all that adept in the material room, but I'm trying :) I've always wondered what "use displacement maps" in the render settings meant. I always left it checked off just in case I had something like that going on in the material room, LOL
I can't really texture, but I'll try this. It looks like it has great potential.

Let me reply on that: a displacement-map looks similar to a bump-map but it's not quite the same.
A bump-map gives the impression of reliëf but a displacement-map actually changes the surface of the model. The best way you can see that is by setting up a model with a monocolor diffuse shader and comparing two renders with a bump-map and a displacement-map. When you see a displacement-map from the side the surface really comes out, with a bump-map it doesn't, you can even see highlights on displacement-map, which isn't the case with bump-maps. I often use displacement-maps together with bump-maps. Bumps-maps can be used for the finer details.
For example: You can make dress or suit or another piece of cloth; with an displacement-map you can make a belt or button or pockets, and with the bump-map you make the cloth look like wool or leather or whatever. This is very useful for dynamic cloths. With displacement -maps you can add extra details to model without being a modeller, you just can make your maps in Paintshop or photoshop. The possibilities are endless like you've seen in this thread!

I think the best thing is a lil'bit of 'How I did it...'. This is my dummy tut
Start PhotoShop or any retouching program. Load the V3 Face map of your character (or a seam file, but I prefer to work directly with the same face I want the effect). Create a transparent layer. Paint your tears there as you prefer. I recommend airbrush at 50-75%, try smooth edges, but the most detail you use, the most result (see Neftis' map). Create a new layer between the original map and the tears one. Fill it with pure black and save it as *jpg with a different name, for example 'displ.jpg'. Now you have your tears map without modify the original face map
Remember: it only works rendering with Firefly (P4 render NOT) and 'Use displacement maps' checked

In the most of cases you don't need more. A full body render will have sufficient distance to work properly this effect. But if you want close shots of the face you need some color for the tears...

Try to use a map with a little bit grey between black and white, the scars become more soft.
This works also very well with pubic hair. Just plug in the transparency map into the Displacement Node too (0.02 e.g.) and see the results. The hair becomes 3D and not 2D on a plane.

Thank you Ulrich.; I appreciate your suggestions very much. I'll keep you posted as to my progress. Since my base texture was originally made for M3, and Ut'C'd by me to conform to the V2 standard of Judy and Neja, I'm also modifying the body texture to give it a thicker thatch of pubic hair, so this project is going to take a bit of doing.

The difference, as I understand it:
A bump map takes information from a black and white extra map and applies a bend to the direction surface normals of the geometry are pointing. This can "fake" the appearance of a raised or dented surface up to a limit.
A displacement map uses a simlar setup, but does not just tweak the normals, it actually moves the surface geometry by an amount indicated by the range from white to black on the map. This is going to produce a more realistic roughening of a surface, likely at the cost of more computing power and render time.

I found this post while searching forums for something else I see a nice step by step in poser but to clearify say i want to make tears or water drops on the skin do i need to open the texture in a program like photoshop then basically paint say the tears on a new layer then make that layer black background and tears, fluid in white then go do my work in poser?

Yes, take the texture of the head into your paint program such as Paint Shop Pro of Photoshop.
Make a copy of it so you don't accidentally save it with changes.
On the copy, create a new layer.
On the new layer, paint in the tears using white.
Now you want to make a transmap, not save the tears on the actual texture. So to do that you need to save the tears onto a black background. Simply just flood fill the bottom layer (the texture of the head) with black. That's why I suggested working on a copy instead of the original texture.
Now merge the two layers together and save the image. You will end up with something like you see in the 5th post in this thread. A black background with white smudges on it.
To use that transmap in the material room, simply hook it up to the Displacement Surface node, like you see in this image

Play around with the value of the Displacement in order to get the effect that you want. You will have to do a render between changes in order to determine if the value is too high or too low.
In a transmap the black is completely transparent, white is completely opaque and the shades of grey in between are various levels of transparency with dark grey more opaque than a very light grey.
