You can for a "very limited time" still download Expression 3 for FREE. Microsoft is now in beta for the next version called "Acrylic." So hurry and capture this one while you still can!notefinger posted Sun, 19 June 2005 at 8:59 PM
What file formates does it save to?

Thanks for the heads up. I got Expression 2 when MS bought it. The file downloaded with no extention for me. I renamed and added .exe to make it work.

In the blurb on the page the above link takes you to it says "a free download version is available to existing users of the product" can I assume from that then that this is only for existing users and just some sort of update to an earlier product?

It seems to be open to everyone - I downloaded it a while back but have been nervous about using it due to the unclear terms and conditions. You do need to be aware that it is an out-on-a-limb application - I don't think any other standard illustration tools will open its native files, and since it is non-postscript at heart the exports to the likes of Ai and Freehand are less than exact.

Beside saving in the native format like Corel Draw does also; you can save in a various other bitmap (photoshop) and vector (ai, swf) even encapsulated postscript. Not too bad for FREE!
