Here my experiments with the DTE have taken a decidedly different turn. This texture is applied to a 128 resolution terrain (fact!), heavily smoothed. Nearly every bit of detail you see here comes straight from the texture; the terrain just provides the sort of "wavy" look that this has. Hope you like it and be sure to let me know what you think of it!

shinyary2 posted Tue, 21 June 2005 at 8:57 AM

Here's the terrain with a flat gray texture applied to it, so you can see that the terrain provides no added detail at all, really. The image with the texture took four minutes and nine seconds to render on Superfine with 16 RPP.

Well i think its great, it has that worn look that a billion years or more has past it, well done

that looks like a really good ground texture. excellent. when are you releasing these as freebies? I'll host them for ya =)

shinyary2 posted Tue, 21 June 2005 at 9:50 AM

Here's my latest. I like the last one better, but this one kind of had to be a bit smoother.

The base terrain looks about the same as the last one. Just some generic soft bumps is all.

This one is intended to be a sort of ash texture.

drac--
Thanks very much for the offer. Let me think about that for a bit, and I'll IM you with my decision. I want to crank out a few more before I decide what I'm going to do with them. =)

Sorry about the repeat, guys... I just wanted to see the above texture when it's applied to a high resolution terrain, and thought maybe you might want to as well. I was afraid it would look too "noisy", but it doesn't. I'm very happy with this. This is a render of the texture applied to four terrains of 1024x1024 resolution each. I forget which fractal I used to generate them. Took a grand total of about four and a half minutes to render on Superfine 16RPP quality. =)

Well, i reckon you should let all who commented a free set! LOL..........Great details in the last upload, this will be an excellent mat for closeup work too. well done and dont stop!....

Excellent textures, it's always hit and miss when I enter the DTE. lol....nothing this good!

shinyary2 posted Tue, 21 June 2005 at 11:41 AM

Here's the next one. Last one was a repeat, so I compensate by making this one twice as detailed. It's Mordor Shale the way it should have been as it came with Bryce. Overall render time here was not quite two minutes, and as usual the terrains that the texture is applied to are 128 resolution and smoothed. The texture provides all of the detail. I'm going to give drac these three as well as my magma texture for freebies, since he has so kindly offered to host them on his site. Thanks drac! =)

Hey I just read something about free sets if you commented. Is that right Robert lol. Excellent textures, show us some applied to rocks if you get a chance.

I never intended to make art.

Aye, that's how I did the crazy ground in this image, too!

Very nice detailed ground textures. Could be used all kinds of ways. I have a lot of fun too making textures in the DTE.

Someone asked for rocks. Well, here they are. =) Stupid Bryce rocks look terrible. I'm pretty happy with the texture, though. I can't believe that the folks at Corel didn't increase the quality of the rocks when they released Bryce5. Those things are simply, completely, and in every respect, AWFUL!!!

Sans2012 posted Tue, 21 June 2005 at 11:31 PM

Yeah, it was me Robert who asked to see the rocks. The textures are allrounders looking at these renders. Excellent work my friend.

I never intended to make art.

shinyary2, Is there any chance you could do a tut on how to create the ash texture? I've been looking for something like that for AGES! I'd quite like to know how to do the others too, but especially the ash.

Great stuff man!

shinyary2 posted Wed, 22 June 2005 at 1:54 PM

Okay I uploaded them, all except for Mordor Shale (the last one), because that one is too large and took too long to send to drac =) Hopefully they will be up soon.
