Got the hankerin' to shoot some film last week. Took my medium format camera (which doesn't have a built in meter) and 4 rolls of film (2 rolls Kodak Portra 400 VC and 2 rolls of the ubiquitous - at least for me - Ilford Delta 3200). Forgot to take my meter. 2-3 years ago I would have had no problem in figuring exposure by eye. Wondered if I still had a little of that left in me. Guess I have a little of the old "film eye" left. :)

Impressive indeed!! :) I wish I had continued with the photography when I was a kid, perhaps I'd have developed a little bit of "film eye" (can you have that lasered? ;) ). Having that kind of skill now would really help me, even though I'm pure digital atm. Love seeing stuff like this. Its inspirational to many of us lesser mortals :). Thanks!

This is quite something. Am impressed with how it scanned so well. Do you scan negatives or the image. This is something I would like to get more acquainted with.

Thanks guys. Really did feel good to shoot film again. Missed it. Doug - It's a small scan (200dpi) from film. Good medium format scanners are so expensive right now, I'm not even considering getting my own ... so, for that format I either have my lab scan them or I'll rent a MF scanner. Brian - Where did I get what? I was probably 5-7 feet away from them. Opened up to f/3.5 to get the nice, shallow DOF. 'chelle - Nope, Ilford Delta 3200 B&W film shot at 3200. As your format size increases, the perceived grain size in scans and prints decreases. For instance, same shot, same film and same web image size but in 35mm format would have a more pronounced grain. Add to that the fact that ID 3200 has a fine grain for such a high speed film. -=>Donald
