Subject: Poser 6 and Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger)

I just purchased the upgrade from Poser 5 to Poser 6 with the understanding that only v.6 will run in the new Mac OS. Unfortunately, the app will not start. I get the initial screen, then the Spinning Beachball of Death for a couple minutes, then the whole thing quits.

Anybody else (I'm mainly talking to Mac users here) have this problem and, more importantly, anybody discover the cause and solution?

By the way, I'm running it on a Dual 2G/G5 with 3.5Gb RAM and nVidia GeForce FX 5200 graphics card (if that helps)...

Thanks for your help...

I had a similar problem trying to install Shade 7 under OSX 10.4.1. The installer gets stuck in the 2nd screen. I tried the same, booting from a different volume under OSX 10.3.9 and everything worked as it should. Let's hope SR2 will be out soon and these problems are fixed.

I was just looking in the Macintosh forums here at Renderosity and there does seem to be some serious issues with Poser 6 and Tiger. I wish I would have checked there before buying the upgrade (a fool and his money...). As for putting it on a 10.3.9 partition, that's not really an option for me. Dang it! This is frustrating as hell!

esther, that's entirely the wrong thing to say! ;) Actually, I sent a support request to e-frontier about this and within 1 hour I received a response with some things to try: - check permissions (all are correct) - zap the PRAM / restart in Safe Boot / delete Poser 6 folder / reinstall / try launching Poser 6 (I'm trying that next - stay tuned). I must say I'm impressed with the quick response from the support folks - they did it in record time! I just hope their advice works...

Well, it worked! I am now running Poser 6 in Tiger. I just wish I had the time to play with it tonight, but softball calls...

Glad to know it's starting up now. Don't know why PRAM would be involved, but starting with option key held down might allow deleting more stuff than a normal boot. Let us know if it's stable enough to render a complex scene.
