So... Renda was rushed to the marketplace with her paint still wet. the chorus from many who saw her in the pre-release of "Nooo, delay the release, finish her first" was pretty much ignored. Many said "no-one knows she's coming, so no one will know if she's a week late, take a week and do a proper job on her, why the rush?" Well guess what? Daz just released a significant add-on pack for V3 - "V3 New Generation 2005" - "...a totally rebuilt V3 cr2". It looks like it works independently of the head and body morph packs - they aren't required. So free V3 base + V3 New Gen = good value = a good reason to try to get people to buy Renda quickly, square wheels an' all. Or just coincidence?

Hmmm. Do you have a link to this new V3 release? I went to Daz and don't see any mention of her. Your theory is possible, however. E.D.

V3 New Generation 2005 was released in January, no?
ofechner posted Fri, 24 June 2005 at 3:32 AM
That version of V3 was released months ago.

What's wierd is that this week's Daz newsletter is banging on about it with a special offer, but when I click on the link - no special offer. Wonder what's going on? The newsletter does call it an updated V3 New Gen, but since I bought it in January I don't see why I should have to buy it again in order to get the update.
nruddock posted Fri, 24 June 2005 at 3:39 AM
That's not new, that item has been around at for least six months.
AmbientShade posted Fri, 24 June 2005 at 3:56 AM
I found the link. I didn't get my daz newsletter this week for some reason... well maybe daz or somebody else has something else in hiding that's about to have a big coming out party. obm's point seems logical. Why else would they ignore the pleas of virtually everybody that saw or worked with renda prior to release just to shove her out the door asap? It seems to me, from other things I've been reading and hearing, that they had a specific date for her release already set way in advance - possibly from as early as her conception - and were intent on meeting that deadline for SOME reason or another. And anybody that worked on her while she was still in hiding had to have been blind not to see all the flaws she still had, so whatever reasons for premature release had to have some significant counter effect on the decision making of those who chose to ignore everybody's delay release cries. E.D.

V3 new generation is not a new figure. She's 1/2 a year old or more. I think the difference between her and the "old" V3 is that there are no morph channels and you because of that you can't use the character addons from "old" V3 on the V3 new generation. So if you depend on character addons to make Vicky look different and pretty, the new generation one isn't for you then.

Ok, my mistake, I didn't realise she's been around for a while. The first time I saw her was in today's newsletter. So I remain puzzled as to why there was a rush to get renda out 'on time'. On time for what? I seriously wonder if Renda will ever be 'oficially' remapped as she clearly needs to be. The alternative is that a few merchants come up with their own versions of "Renda Remapped" but this will mean users will have to make a choice as to which remapped version they adopt as standard, it'll dilute the variety of available textures if there are different favorite mappings. It needs to be done at source and it needs to be done a week ago.

You can use Morph Manager to transfer the morphs you want to use from V3NG to V3. That would also help keep the Cr2 size smaller than the 93Mb that V3NG is. I have both combined using Morph Manager to create my characters then save out the new object and point the original V3 Cr2 at the new object to make a new smaller Cr2. The combined one is about 150Mb.

You totally lost me there. But whatever it is you said, sounds way too complicated for me. If you're going to go through all of that, why even bother getting the new one, if you can just use the "old" one, that looks the same, and click an "INJ BODY" icon, and a Texture icon, and be done with it? This "new generation" seems like a make work project that requires spending even more money on another program to get it to do what the old Vicky did.

So I remain puzzled as to why there was a rush to get renda out 'on time'. On time for what? The only thing I can think of is to clash with the release of Anton's Apollo. The Poser community as a whole does spend far more on female models than on male. That's the only significant figure release. We have been "teased" with a number of new female figures: neftis' new girl, kamira (sp?), hints of Victoria 4 from DAZ....but they are all a long way off. Oh - correction, there's Jim Burton's Glamorous Jessie, too. That would count as a significant current release so might be the reason behind the "renda" rush. Certainly no comparison in quality there. JB's figures are always near-faultless...they just tend to end up challenged in the clothing area.

"JB's figures are always near-faultless...they just tend to end up challenged in the clothing area. " Well the 'Wardrobe Whizzer' will fix that problem I would think.

It says V3NG has been updated, though. To be "more compatible with V3SAE." Dare I hope that it now allows V3's standard morphs to be injected? That would make the product massively more usable.

*Well the 'Wardrobe Whizzer' will fix that problem I would think.* I hope so, but they are not supported figures yet, AFAIK. *where can I get Glamourous Jessie?* She's available through Content Paradise (see link). She looks amazing in Jim's promos but I haven't bought her (yet) so can't testify personally.lululee posted Fri, 24 June 2005 at 8:56 AM

How many mat zones does Glam Jessi have??
One of the reasons I actually liked Jessi was that she wasn't bogged down in the mat room with a dozen virtually unnecessary mat zones. Lips can be masked out easily using nodes, but I can see why some people would want them seperate. V3, for example, is just a horrid collection of useless (in my opinion) zones that make it harder to change things on the fly or last minute in the mat room.

I have seen images of glamorous Jessie and like what I've seen a lot. Her knees seem to bend better too, compaired to v3 and others which is good. Unfortunately I can't use her tho because I don't have p6 and wont have it for quite a while. I've sort of adopted the method of building quicksuits (THIP's original creation), for all the figures I use in order to make the building of clothing much easier. I'm building one now for Renda Redux, which is nearly complete. If more figures had them then it might help to open up clothing options for the "wardrobe challenged" figures. E.D.

I quite like the V3 quickdress that EnglishBob has on his site.
I've been thinking of converting it to Steph Petite with Wardrobe Wizard.

"You totally lost me there. But whatever it is you said, sounds way too complicated for me." Very easy and Morph Manager is a Free app that no Poser user should be without. Pointless though it may be with what I said if Daz has updated V3NG, then everything is already done for you. What fun is that? LOL. I don't think very many people are going buy Renda. Not at that price. So most content will be made and passed back and forth between merchants who get her free. As for beta testing, don't be surprised it was the same people that tested Jessie. All the same problems. Oohh another conspiracy theory. You can't go wrong with GJ.

V3 New Generation is a brokered product for Harvey Mann, not a Daz Original. It predated the V3 SAE release. V3 SAE is the most recent update to V3 by Daz.
Tashar59 posted Fri, 24 June 2005 at 9:02 PM
Yes we know that. You can't have an update till Daz feels like giving it to you though. Then you are lucky if they tell you about it. I just found out that IV was updated through Jim, not Daz. So if HMann updated V3NG to take V3 injects, how would we know without a brief mention in this thread.
pdxjims posted Fri, 24 June 2005 at 9:51 PM
beryld, Daz does send notices to people who have already purchased a product of any updates to it. I know I've gotten them. They don't re-advertise on brokered (non "Daz Original") items. So if an update is made to an item, notices are sent to purchasers, but not a blanket notice to all Daz customers who didn't buy the product. That kind of information/advertising comes from the vendor themselves. Daz also retests whenever an upgrade or fix comes in for an existing product. This can slow down the release of the upgrade/fix, but does make it more likely to work when you do get it. Some other sites don't do any notification of upgrades, don't have a return policy, and when something is pulled for copyright problems gives no restitution to purchasers. Daz does all of that. I also know that Daz, like most sites, does make mistakes in notification. It's the usual kind of problem we see on a LOT of sites, where overworked web people and programmers make the too human error.
Tashar59 posted Fri, 24 June 2005 at 10:40 PM
See, you learn something all the time. I thought that Daz informs all purchasers of all products that are updated. Maybe why I'm still waiting for some fixes that never seemed to have been done but might have been. I have gotten many notices about brokered products from Daz. The last was Clothing Converter. But Mark had already given it to me. Must be a hit and miss kind of thing.
