Lately I've purchased some models from the marketplace, in obj format, and upon importing to Bryce they are, how shall I put it, in pieces, or parts are separated like half the castle is teeny tiny and the other half is so gigantic I can't zoom out far enough to reduce it's size.... Does anyone know what causes this? Had the same problem with Rudy's colonade......only thing I could do was import into C4D and export as 3ds to get them to stay together in proportion....which makes mapping a pain...

Have you tried running them through uvmapper (but not changing anything, just resaving them)? No idea if that'll help or not, but yeap, I've run into the problem with a couple of freebie models as well.

Can't help, but I've had the same problem. I had to read into an external ap and then back in. It's a pain. So really bookmarking in case you find a solution.

I used to have this happen occasionally with Rhino-generated .obj models. Some even would scatter parts hither and yon. I successfully used UVMapper in one or two of these cases, because my .obj exports were "out of range" for some reason. It hasn't happened to me for a long time, though. Drawbridgep is right, a "pain" indeed, but, if it works ...

The only thing i did to get around it was to have the OBJ open in Bryce and then resize/refit all the pieces together and saved as another OBJ file........it is time consuming but at least you get used to how things are made and I have learnt a lot from it! But this doesnt help you when the OBJ file was meant to be opened in Bryce and didnt! :(

One problem that may not apply to any of these cases is that Bryce has a 512 object limit per import. When the import goes over this Bryce should give an error message and stop but instead creates really bizarre geometries.

512? Crikey, I only have room for 2 more!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I should have mentioned this was for B5 - don't know about B5.5 (and as everyone has noticed, the import plugs have changed quite a bit). And to be sure, this is per import. Bryce should handle well over 512 internally.

There is something that causes objects made in 3DMax to appear exploded when imported into Bryce, I seem to remember. The modeler has to export using a certain setting. Cant remember what it
s called but I`m sure there is a small program that corrects it. You could try asking in the Max forum in case this is the problem.

I've had the same problem,........very frustrating. I am fortunate enough to have a couple of 3D apps(C4D and Max4.2), that I can import the offending mods into then export as a .dxf file(by material in Max) and this usually corrects the problem.

Running B5, no .5 attached as I decided until 6 comes out it wasn't worth the money, I believe the orignal models were created in C4D, and I suspect that they weren't 'grouped' efore export and therefore the two radically different geometry sizes Bryce creates....jmo I did email the creator of one of the ones I purchased to correct the problem, but I haven't heard back from him yet, guess a review of the product will get his attention though.....

If they were modelled in verson 6 of C4D which is the one that went out on a cover CD some time ago,or with the Eclectic Academy course I took then that version doesn't have any group facility. May be that the modeller won't even have a way of correcting it. That said though, I made things in my version 6 before I upgraded and they imported to bryce 5.01 fine, even if they did get some very bizarre mesh names. Kathy
