Okay, becuase in CS there is the color replace brush, and in CS2 a even more dedicated tool. The red eyes are actually the inside of the eye you see through the pupil. The reason is the fact that the flash and lense are close to another. This knowledge helps, because you now know that the whole red part is actually pupil (with maybe a little spill), so that has to become black. I first try to 'burn'/darken the red part with the burn tool (a slightly soft brush that is 3/4 of the size of the pupil, opacity set to, like, 30 if you do it by mouse). You should try to make large sessions (start-stop painting) where you make circles in the red part. Sometimes it becomes too dark that way, then you can first pull the eyes (or just the red part) from tha baisic layer. With a round selection (guidelines help a lot) you can select the pupils (first include the part that is hidden behind the eye lid) to a new layer and then use color corrections (de-saturate and level corrections) to get a dark pupil! There are lots of other ways to remove red eyes. See link for a totally different way....

I actually paint in a mask over the pupils, with a very soft edge, then go in and desaturate (I use a mask so I don't accidentally desaurate any other part of the eye). Sometimes that's enough right there. If it still doesn't look right, though, I use the burn tool set on a low opacity and very gently darken the pupils. Do it too much and it looks totally weird, so you want to go slowly with it. bonni

here's an old-fashion way i used to do from back in the ver 5.5 days (should still work because it utilizes "channels" though looking at it now, it seems to a rather arduous method)

anyway here goes,

Step one:
Open your image and set the mode to RGB Color.

Step two:
Zoom in until you can easily select the pupil of the eyes.

Step three:
Using the ellipse selection tool, make a selection of one of the pupils (make sure all of the red eye is inside your selection).

Step four:
Hold down the shift key and select the other eye.

Step five:
Open the channels palette and select the Blue channel.

Step six:
Copy the Blue channel.

Step seven:
Select the Red channel.

Step eight:
Paste your selection into the Red channel.

Step eight:
Switch back to RGB and deselect.

The information in the blue channel has now been copied over the information in the red channel within the selection and the red-eye is eliminated!!!
