My apologies if this subject has already been posted. If it has, I missed it. Just wondering if anyone from this forum (besides myself) will be at Siggraph. It'd be fun to meet and swap Vue war stories. I'm hoping to be there every day, but don't know yet if that will be possible. If you'll be there, post the days in this thread. Maybe we can organize a Vuer lunch, or share a few brews. Whatever.

I haven't seen the subject being brought up around here yet, but now that you mention it, I will be attending this year :) I guess I will be using the message board after all.

Hmmm, so far it doesn't look like a big crowd. ;)Since CG is a hobby for most here, I guess not many are willing to make the trip to L.A. Met several Xfroggers last time I went. Agiel, glad to see you'll be there. I'd be great to meet the moderator of the Vue forum. You probably have more Vue war stories than most. I haven't even checked out the list of vendors and lectures, so don't know what my schedule will be, yet.

I plan on attending, but just the Expo. This is the last year it will be on the lower left side of the USA (at least for several years), so might as well go again. Is E-on software showing up this time? Peggy

Yes... e-on software is listed as one of the exhibitors. I am going as a conference attendee through my job, and you wouldn't believe my schedule for that week. I can't believe it myself ...

Heh DigReal...wish I'm living where you are :) Some brew (boost)would be good. Anyway..I'm just dreaming ;)

Peggy, what's all this about Siggraph leaving SoCal? I thought they wanted to keep it in L.A. because so much of the industry is centered there. Howdy, Mr Bill... err tesign. The flight you'd have to make is so long, I might not do it even if the airfare was free!
Peggy_Walters posted Wed, 06 July 2005 at 9:15 AM
I though the Siggraph moved around the USA to make it easier for people to visit? It was on the east coast for quit a few years, then moved central, than to San Diego where I finally went. If they keep it in LA, that would be fine by me! I can't/won't drive to LA, but taking the train was fun last year.

Oh, you mean you weren't sure about the move? (sigh of relief). After the last San Diego show, they said it would be more practical to stay in L.A. most years. Of course, that was 2 years ago... L.A. politics have a way of changing things. By train, do mean the Metrolink? That's how I get to L.A. Very nice ride, and sure beats the freeways.
Peggy_Walters posted Wed, 06 July 2005 at 10:34 AM
That's good news to me that it will be staying in LA. I did not hear about that! I took the Amtrack train from San Diego. $80 for round trip, business class. It was fun and relaxing. The train station is only about 2 miles away from Siggraph. The taxi cab ride last year was the scariest part of the trip. It would have taken me over 3 hours each way to drive, plus parking, so at first it sounds expensive, but I think it is right for me. Hope to see you there!

Amtrack from San Diego... that does sound relaxing. Don't quote me on the staying in LA. That was the word 2 years ago. I hope it's still true. :) Actually, I like going to San Diego for Siggraph. The area around their convention center is MUCH more interesting than in LA. If you don't like cabs, you can do like me and hop the redline subway from Union Station to 7th st. From there, either take the Dash A bus the other 7 blocks (every 5 minutes, 25 cents) or just walk. The bus is better. Yeah, maybe we can all pick a day and time to meet at the e-on booth for howdies.
Peggy_Walters posted Wed, 06 July 2005 at 12:51 PM
Well, going to Siggraph was my big adventure away from my desk. Taking the cab was part of the thrill! Did make my hair stand on end when he went through the red light!!! Thanks for the tip on the bus, might try that this year. I always feel like a country bumpkin going to LA - just a different mood/pace than San Diego's downtown. I had heard that it was going to be in Boston next year, but don't see anything on Siggraph's site.

I went to the 2003 one in San Diego... I had a great time. This will be my first time in LA. Meeting at the e-on booth would be a logical place. I wonder if we will be able to put some faces on some of the e-on names we have seen from time to time...

Siggraph 2006 is currently scheduled for Boston. See attached link. - OshyanDigReal posted Wed, 06 July 2005 at 7:33 PM
San Diego '03 was my last Siggraph... might've bumped into you then, agiel. Personally, I don't think LA can begin to compare to SD, but I'll refrain from my usual LA bashing. ;) There are many great places in LA, just too spread out with too many miles of drab, bumper-to-bumper concrete in between. (Okay, one little bash.) Ahhh, so it is Boston next year. I had a feeling it wouldn't really stay in LA. Thanks for that link, Oshyan.

Boston would be great.... I love Boston. Not too far from me either. I will have to start planning for next year too.
Peggy_Walters posted Thu, 07 July 2005 at 7:49 AM
Well, Boston is way far away from me, so I am going to this Siggraph for sure. Might be a while before it is close to me again.

Remember Renderosity is giving away free passes if you are interested. The supplies are limited and I hear they have almost run out. Check out the front page news if you want more details.

Saw that a couple days ago. Hoping I applied in time...haven't heard any kind of response. From what you say, it sounds like I was in time. Thanks, agiel.

Looks like we forgot to plan on a meeting time. I'll be there today and tomorrow. Easy to spot, I'll be wearing either a Death Valley or Sequoia NP tee shirt. Hope to meet at least a few folks from the forums.
agiel posted Tue, 02 August 2005 at 9:28 AM
I'll walk around with a Rosity Tshirt :) I have a full morning of papers and courses, but I am planning on spending most of my afternoon at the exhibition. See you there maybe :)
Peggy_Walters posted Wed, 03 August 2005 at 9:42 AM
Saw a few Renderosity members at the booth. It was so much fun! There are some great things coming from Vue! Vue Fusion is a MUST have if you use Lightwave/Maya. It will be also support Cinema 4D by the "end of the year". Yeah!!! That's OK, I need to upgrade C4D (which comes out next month) first, so it will give me time to save up more money. Talked to the Vue people a bit about Cornupia store. They have some good plans for it, so give it a bit of time to grow. I liked their ideas on new content! Thanks e-on! I had a great time visiting you! Peggy

I didn't see a single Rosity tee shirt yesterday. Didn't find the booth, either. Can't find the booth number here, ... what is it? My bum ankle needs a rest so I'll be back tomorrow instead of today. I also enjoyed visiting the e-on booth. Got a few of my questions answered, too. Seemed very busy each time I went by. Seemed to me that infinite and fusion have generated a lot of industry buzz.
Peggy_Walters posted Wed, 03 August 2005 at 10:24 AM
Renderosity doesn't have a booth per say, but are with the DAZ/Evoia booth. If you saw Vue's booth, DAZ is just 2 or 3 rows away. Booth numbers are on the floor, but a lot of them are covered up with carpet. It was by shear luck that I bumped into AgenSmith, Eric, and Lillian. It was VERY crowded!

Thanks for the info, Peggy. I have 3 maps of the layouts, so numbers are no prob. I was at the DAZ/Evoia booth and didn't know to be looking for R'osity tees there. lol I see from the meet-n-greet you're already back home. Sorry I missed meeting you. I'll try to find agiel, AgentSmith, and the others tomorrow. Yep, crowded as always. Wish me luck!

How about trying to meet at 1:00 pm at e-on's booth ? I should be at the Exhibition at that time. I will either have a Renderosity or a black Siggraph 05 tshirt.
