Was outfront a little while ago and caught THIS critter! Not a great shot...heck it was dark and hard enuff to track it! I did start to notice a flight pattern and tried to anticipate where the bat would be! Got this one before it took off! My camera is VERY limited focusing in low light! (if ya didn't notice) Btw this is a CROP of the original 3072 X 2304 (7mp) image. Wanted to get in closer to the subject!
Here is some of the relevant Exif data from my Canon G6:
Mode: Shutter Priority (TV)
Shutter Speed Value 1/8 sec
Aperture Value F2.5
Metering Mode Spot
Flash First Curtain (default)
ISO 100

At least you got it... wonder if higher ISO would have done anything.

It's a great shot and the darkness around it proves how hard it was to take!!!

Great shot! If you ever get the chance toss a stone in the air. Bats will almost always follow the stones path! Out of curiosity I think:}

I've seen 2 bats flying around dusk pretty much every night now! Seems like the are out catching the skeeters and gnats that swarm near the street lights! The stone thing actually does work, but since they can't really SEE, I think their radar locks in on the bigger object and the movement. This might come in handy when I try to get some more pix of 'em!

LMAO@Cyn!!! Great capture Joe indeed!! Something intrigues me though! How on earth could u get a clear shot of something flying (moving) at 1/8 sec??? O_o I don't get this!!

Hey Pascale...think that's where the FLASH came in! The slow shutter/flash combo enabled me to capture the bat in flight! If you look REAL close at the image, you can see a darker sort of smear from the bottom left corner to the bat! This is the bats flight path movement captured in a sense.
