aka a challenge.. in the max forum someone was commenting that max doesn't get used that much for modelling things such as concept cars. in discussing the whole idea of modelling we came up with the idea: using your preffered modelling ap, everyone model something like a concept car, posting w.i.p with wires every couple of weeks or so. ( feedback on how it's going, as well as opportunity to ask others about areas you are having a problem with. ) not really a challenge, more a way of showing off what you can do and what your modelling app can do. to allow for a no pressure modell, allow for 3 months to get it done. ( if we can't get it done in 3 months, and done very well, then we really need to learn our apps better. ;) ) comments, both for and against?

Hi. Well, I'm always for anything that gets people motivated. However, the last challenge had a really poor turnout and I'm looking at other ways of getting them kicked off. If folks like this maybe we can stick with a similar layout for the future...

I've always liked the idea of a multi app challenge and this sounds cool. The only thing is, modelling a concept car is a fairly specialised challenge, it's not really my sort of thing usually but I might be able to come up with something in 3 months!

Maybe do a summer challenge. I am a second rate modeler but would like to do more echallenges. Actually the best challenge that I saw ever we the medival airport was a C4D challeng every imaginative and interesting entries.

BazC, that's actually why I put a 3 month time suggestion, to promote people into giving it a try. after all if you don't try you don't learn about your app and improve your skills. Dann-O, what, nock a month off the time for it and make the idea harder for some people to try to accomplish? this is meant to get people to try, and by so doing improve thier own skills, not intimidate some by having a more limited time. a single model, like a car is easier than an entire building set, but if you want to do a midevil airport go for it.
Jaqui posted Sun, 10 July 2005 at 2:44 AM
what only three people interested in trying to get a model done in 3 month time limit? that's loads of time.
Dann-O posted Sun, 10 July 2005 at 3:29 AM
Well a concept car sounds good to me. I agree I am surprised at the low interest. The Rhino forum is pretty active you might be able to scare up a few more people there.

Why not submit a photo -- two or three views of something to model, so everyone is trying their best to make their model look as close to the photo as they can?

I've still got a car that I'm finishing up in Wings3D. But maybe after I finally get it done... Maybe I'll do the EV1, I've already got a start on the wheel design for it.

Cars are boring. How about a concept bicycle? M :)

I really like the idea of a concept bicycle. Pearce, that's a good one.

Jaqui posted Fri, 15 July 2005 at 4:45 AM

yup, this is a way for modellers to see what they can do, as well as what can be done with the other applications. it's a real challence with bryce and vue, as thier modelling tools outside of terrains are very limited. ( vue has some fantastic models created with it, using those tools, so it can be done just takes time, and effort ) hopefully there will be more people posting some sort of wip soon, but it's barely been a week.
Sans2012 posted Fri, 15 July 2005 at 2:47 PM
The problem there is that they don't really allow you to model as such; add and subtract maybe:]

Dann-O posted Fri, 15 July 2005 at 7:15 PM
Don't sell Bryce short yet. It is not an ideal modeler but it does more than booleans. I would make the body using the terrain editor and photoshop or another paint program. Wings is free that is what I use. Metaseqoia is free too and it is quite good.

this is meant to show what can be done with the different apps guys, not knock what is not intended use of them. :) I posted a link to this thread in every modelling app forum. those that choose to will participate. ( found a couple where the forum members stated that it's not possible with thier app., fair enough, they were invited. ) lets work together to help each other, in both technique and knowledge. :)

As long as I can keep myself focused on this task and not get all sidetracked while I'm modelling ;) then I'll have a go too :)
