Looks like folks are posting Hexagon threads here, so I will give it a go.

I need to upgrade my graphics card to one that uses open GL (the kind Hexagon wants). I have the demo and have ordered the program, but using it is hit or miss. I've used an ATI Radeon 8500, 128mg ram for a long time, but the new breed of open gl software does not like it.

I have the Hexagon demo and have ordered the program, but using it is hit or miss.

Any opinions about which card (practical, utilitarian) would work?

I'm not a gamer (no time)
I'm a professional illustrator running Rhino, FreeHand, PhotoShop, Carrara 4, Poser 6, Painter 9... I've had some issues with Poser and now with Hexagon, so I need to do something.

I have been looking at
ATI Fire GL T2-28
GeForce FX 5200 or whatever...

any ideas or suggestions would be welcome...
thanks,
Nate

Go with nvidia for your next card. It is really becoming the standard now. The company works hand-and-hand with the graphics software companies.

The Nvida cards have been great. Mark

Yeah, go with the nvidia. They are very good with supporting the software drivers for their cards. The latests drivers are always availale at their web site and are easy to install and upgrade. You should be able to pick up an FX-5500 with 256 meg of memory for about $80 - $90 depending on where you buy.

Thanks for the information and advice.

I have installed the (Nvidia) PNY Verto AGP8X GeForce FX 5700VE, 256mb DDR.

Works fine.... Hexagon and Poser 6 both like it.

later,
Nate.

Just to add my 2 cents ;) At Eovia, both graphic cards are used : ATI and Nvidia. Peronaly, I use a FX5950 Ultra 256 Mb at the office and a X800 Pro 256 Mb at home. Both runs smoothly and I prefer the X800 (more brutal performances :))

Yep, I use the FX5900. Never had any problems with software. I use to hear about the ATI incompatibilities and said to myself I'm glad I went with NVidia!
