Attached Link: Dragonflies came back.
I felt the dragonflies had deserted this place. Then one showed up and I went to get the macro lens..my, did I learn something of manual focus while wearing bifocals. I used too small aperture(small number, wide opening) and most of the 8 shots were not good enough. This one is decent. I get a different pov than most since the bugs here prefer landing on the antenna of my truck, above my head. For comparison see the better image from a while back on the attached link.
This one took several flights to snag a mosquito...thanks for that!
Anyway, I am glad at least for today the dragonflies are back.

hehe - 90% of all my macro attempts turn out rubbish. The shallow DoF makes it very tricky to get a good looking photo (for me at least ;) ). I end up taking lots of pictures at different settings and pray one comes out well enought to use :D I think you've done a good job considering how difficult I know it is. :) :)

Cool shot Tom! Checlout those awesome WINGS! The only thing about this image is its head is a overexposed! D-flies are NOT easy the easiest buggers to capture! With those HUGE compound eyes....they see everything! At work, in the parking lot, I've noticed that they fly around "diving" at the cars! I think the reflective paint on the cars TRICKS them...they actually think its water! At the lake I frequent, there are plenty of 'em flyin around! Each one seems to have a favorite branch or spot, where the land to rest a bit! You'll notice this stuff after watchin'em for awhile! Then you can kinda anticipate where they will be and get ready for a shot! L8r! Joe
