Subject: What causes this?

I can't seem to figure out how to get rid of these black spots. I'm using ray traced shadows in P6. They don't show up anywhere else other than right at these spots. I've changed the shading rate, pixel samples, raised and lowered the ray bounces and so far I can't get rid of them. I'm down to the point that I think it's a mesh problem. Ed

i bet you've got smooth polygons turned on...

It looks a lot like problem number 2 in stewer`s firefly faq. You could try increasing the light's Shadow Min Bias but the solution might be more complex for poser 6 because of the more complex lighting.

No, zulu, if it were smooth polygons then things would look like balloons. Smooth polygons doesn't cause spots. Xantor is correct.

thanks for the replies. xantor was right.. it was the min shadow bias. I had to turn it way up for it to work.
