Subject: Fractal Weekly Window - Barb and Nick

gumbykat ( ) posted Wed, 13 July 2005 at 2:22 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 5:01 PM

Hi, y'all! I love the Fractal Weekly Window and the Fractal Vintage Showcase! They give me a chance to view the best of the best, and sometimes, when I've missed a really good one, I visit the artist's gallery and find lots of gems! I recently commented on one that Barb (DreamWarrior) created (Positive Thinking), telling her it would be a beauty for the FWW. She thanked me but told me she thought it would be unethical for her to put her own image in the FWW. I disagree, and I'm hoping you do, too! Just because Barb and Nick work so hard for all of us is no reason to penalize them! I think their images should be considered for both the FWW and FVS. Do you agree? If so, let's hear it for Barb and Nick! Linda

Second that motion...

I agree!

Me too, but Nick and Barb need to be willing to take the chance of one or two disgruntled members. Just the perception is enough, if you know what I mean.

but i still agree!

mountmous ( ) posted Thu, 14 July 2005 at 9:45 AM

I do too

locomouse ( ) posted Thu, 14 July 2005 at 9:46 AM

Me, too... or three... agree! ;)

Me four, most definitely, please??

SimonKane ( ) posted Thu, 14 July 2005 at 12:30 PM

Agreed.

perhaps we should make an exclusive barb and nick -week. for instance, ones in a semester. .we do it so we can see their work, besides all the efforts they make on behalve of rendo.that way, nobody can get grumpy or we make a " did you know this artist" weekly, with only one artist in the picture.and that surely can include theirs.

Redshift ( ) posted Thu, 14 July 2005 at 5:49 PM

Agreed

I'll third the motion! "Positive Thinking" is outstanding, IMO - would fit the fractal weekly, monthly, or yearly! Maybe Barb and/or (whomever posted an image) Nick should be reserved one slot in the weekly thingie as "compensation" for putting up with us kids? lol Kinda like Linda and Panny get a slot on the fractal calendar as payment for all the work they do getting the images together for the publisher to choose from.....and for putting up with all us kids! lol Looked at Barb's gallery and the images there are almost all really good - to my eye anyhow. Haven't seen many from Nick lately - he seems to be busy playing "roving reporter/journalist" these days. :-?) Rick

I think that's a great idea, Rick! Barb? Nick? Will you consider making one of the images a "staff" image? Linda

Awww... you're too good, people! blushes
You have no idea how great is to read and see reactions like this. Sincerely, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I like recognition just as much as the next guy. I will never ever deny that. But I have strong principles (and I don't mean they are good ones or useful or whatever, they just "are"). And to me, the way to gain recognition is just as important as getting it. I can't help it. For if I was widely praised as a great artist having used a power not everybody can use, how would I know the difference between genuine and "advertised" recognition?
I know this might be too philosophycal, lol, but that is the way I feel (and/or think).

There were times I thought one of my images was good enough to be in the FWW, and there where times when I thought the other "nominees" were much better. But the truth is, no matter how objective I try to be, I can't. I'm involved. There's no way around that.
I could try and display one of my images in the FWW, and I would probably like it very much, because of the attention it will get. But in the end it simply won't feel "right".

I hope I'm making sense. Know that I truly appreciate this kind gesture. And this recognition weights far more in my book than one that is self-imposed.

group hug ^_^
Barb

PS: If Nick wants to see his work in the FWW, I have no problems. My criteria doesn't have to be the "right" one, nor work for others.
But for that... we should see him post in the gallery!!! :)
Come on, Nick, fire a flame! LOL

Wow....I surely do thank everyone for the great words! This is really cool, however I feel the same as Barb in this. It just wouldn't feel right. Just happy to see the great reactions each and every week. That in itself is well worth it :D Barb: "PS: If Nick wants to see his work in the FWW, I have no problems. Too much to do, too much to learn, so little time :D I'll work on it, though :D Rick: "Haven't seen many from Nick lately - he seems to be busy playing "roving reporter/journalist" these days. :-?)" I am enjoying it. Got plenty on my list there :D
